Any PS1 game recommendations?

As the title says, I am currently collecting old PlayStation 1 games and I was wondering if you have any recommendations because I need help finding games that might fit my wants and I figured this would be a good way to get some ideas

On my list currently:

Currently on my radar for PS1 is Currently Bloody Roar 1 and 2, Warpath: Jurassic Park and Godzilla Trading Battle

What I already own:

Just a few days ago I got the PlayStation 1 and I currently have no games unfortunately

Generally what I like:

You guys can recommend anything and I will definitely check it out but what I prefer playing are games that allow me to be something that's not human which is why I am getting into the Bloody Roar games because the furry in me demands I play the furry fighting game. I also like any game that allows me to be sort of an antagonist or a villain of some sort kind of like what Manhunt has going on. And my last big criteria is really just anything involving dinosaurs or dragons. As I'm a big Jurassic Park fan and Godzilla fan so I'm collecting those games as well

Anyhow, I am also interested in trying new genres, so if you have any cool looking racing games or hunting games or anything like that I would be very interested in checking them out. Thank you so much!

One creator is recreating GTA V, Skyrim, Elden Ring, God of War and Final Fantasy X on PS1

I've recently come across a creator called 2009aero, who has been making experimental recreations of modern games on retro hardware.

In just a few months, he's shown PS1 projects based on:

  • Minecraft
  • GTA V
  • Skyrim
  • Elden Ring
  • Final Fantasy X
  • God of War
  • Oblivion

He's also experimented with N64 projects such as GTA San Andreas and Dark Souls, and previously attempted to bring Pokémon Red to TempleOS using HolyC.

Here's the interesting part: none of these PS1 projects appear to be publicly playable or open source. They're essentially demonstrations showing what these games could look like running on hardware that was never designed for them.

And this seems to have created a bit of a divide.

For regular gamers, these projects are pretty amazing (see YT comments). Seeing something like GTA V or Elden Ring recreated on a PS1 is obviously impressive and makes for a great video.

But some people in the PS1 homebrew community (psxdev discord) have a very different view. I've seen the argument that these are essentially showcase projects: they're designed to demonstrate an impressive result and attract attention, but there's no released game, source code or technology for other developers to actually experiment with.

The sheer speed is also interesting. Seven different PS1 projects in around three months is a lot, especially considering the technical limitations involved in developing for the original hardware. Although 2009aero hasn't publicly explained how much AI is involved in the development process, so it's impossible to know how much AI, if any, was used.

Sapika_08 wrote our first feature for PSX Homebrew Games looking into 2009aero, his projects and this divide between the general gaming audience and the homebrew community:

GTA V, Skyrim and Final Fantasy X on PS1?

So I'm curious what do you think:

Are these projects valuable technical experiments even if they never become playable games?

Or is a PS1 homebrew project only really interesting to the scene if people can download it, study it and build upon it?

What do you think about the superstation?

So i wanna find a way to play my ps1 games in an "easier" way and modern, and i found that great project, it can mimic the original console without its hardware, and also has some great features, but its still on the beta section, and the information for it is kinda limited.

if anyone tried it, i'd like to see your opinion about it, and is it better than the original console?, or even the Xstation?, i need to know more.

Can someone help me identify a PS1 game?

I recently got a PS1 at an estate sale in it is in great condition. It was my first console and there are some games I remember playing but don’t know the name of. I just got Scooby Doo Cyber Chase and am determined to beat it for the first time in my life.

There are 2 games im actually trying to find and ill try my best to describe them. I hope you can help and forgive me if the description isn’t good enough.

  1. This game was definitely Rated M. A shooting game probably. There is only one part I remember. Starting outside in the dark and going into a building. You’d grab loot I think and go into random doors. I think there was a bathroom and an enemy was in there. I believe it was first person as well. Can anyone help?
  2. This was a fighting game and the only one I’ve ever played. I remember 2 characters only, a blue and red one. They almost looked like some sort of power rangers or robots.

I really hope this community can point me in the right direction!

Also, I never had a memory card so id always start from the beginning. That could help with number 1.

UPDATE: Really appreciate you all trying to help! I think Ive narrowed down the first one to Die Hard Trilogy. After watching youtube videos , the second one looks like what I was trying to describe! For the second, I’m certain it was a game called Evil Zone!

Please feel free to drop some of your recommendations! Would love to hear it

Xenogears

Cleaning out my old TV console and came across a stash of games I haven't thought about in years. Among them was a near mint copy of Xenogears. Quick eBay check aside, since I can only see what sold and what the list price was, not what it actually sold for...anyone have an actual idea of value?

New here, hi! Just bought a PS1 7502 and Rayman 2 - I don’t remember the graphics being this bad as a kid - how can I improve the pixelation?

I appreciate we are no longer in the days of CRT but man it’s more of an eyesore than I was expecting. Any tips or tricks to improve? It’s like I can count every pixel. Thanks!

Original PS1 Koudelka Copy for sale

Hello!

I have a PS1 copy of Koudelka CIB.

The case is obviously old, but I know people care more about the manual and disc condition.

Looking to sell and what the best way to sell would be. I don't need hundreds and hundreds, just want what's fair so somebody else can either collect or enjoy this as much as I have.

Found an old PS1 in a corner of my house

I found this old PS1 in a corner of my house. The eject button is broken, so it opens normally, but to close it again I have to pull the lid up.

Other than that, it looks almost brand new. One of the controllers also seems to have a broken analog stick. I have no idea if the console still works, but it was pretty cool finding it after all this time.

And on top of it is my PSP, which I still use from time to time. 😅

The Backrooms on PS1? Meet Tiny Backrooms

We recently added Tiny Backrooms into our website, a small survival horror project by KasaBranca inspired by the Backrooms and classic PS1 games such as Resident Evil.

The project is made with Mipsync Engine, a new development environment specifically designed to create games for the PS1. It provides a Unity-like workflow with a scene editor, asset management, animation, UI and audio tools, while using its own scripting language, Mips#, which is similar to C#.

Since Mipsync is still very early in development, Tiny Backrooms is also one of the early playable projects made with the engine. The current build is very small, featuring only three prerendered areas, but it already demonstrates the foundations of a PS1-style survival horror game.

We've also included a short gameplay video so you can see the project in action.

We wrote a short article covering the project:

Tiny Backrooms

It's interesting to see new tools making PS1 development more accessible, and I'm curious to see what projects will come out of Mipsync as the engine evolves.

Disc wobble and skipping in FMV’s

Hello everyone,

The disc spindle on this PlayStation had unfortunately broke, so I decided to replace it with a new one from Ebay. I pryed off the old one with butter knives and a flathead screwdriver, and popped the new one on, with a credit card underneath to give it some height. I had to do this before as well, but that one broke too. Which means this was my 2nd attempt.

However, as you can see in the vide, there appears to be quite a lot of wobble on the disc, and a lot of skipping on FMV’s. Im not very knowledge on console repairs, as this is my first time.

I’m thinking perhaps I installed the new one bent and not straight? I’m not sure.

It is a modchipped PAL PS1 if that helps. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you and have a good day!
