Does scratch through top of game disc always mean a game disc is dead?
I just acquired a final fantasy PS1 collection of almost every game. As a younger guy I’ve only played these through emulation, and not yet original hardware.
I was checking the quality of disc, and most of them are very clean on the bottom for the exception of FF VIII which has bad circular light scratches throughout the whole disk. Also maybe 1 or 2 minor deep scratches on a couple disc, but not deep enough for my finger nail to catch when I light run it over.
Also something else that concerns me is I read online that if the label of disc (top of disc) has scratches than the game data is essentially unreadable, and the game is dead, or some point or another will freeze an not work.
I’ve noticed some of these disc in collection do have these imperfections when shinning light through label side to bottom of disc, and was wondering what the general consensus is on this subject. I have a SCPH-9001 ps1, and heard that they have the best laser out of all the models, and was wondering if this would help with scratches on top and bottom of disc.
Thanks for any information it’s very much appreciated. I would think have such a flaw as a disc being completely bricked by scratches on top of disc would be out of possibility, but hey what do I know I’m a young guy that’s only emulated up to this point.

Help me find my childhood game
There was a game that I used to play when I was young asf. But all I remember was being creeped out while I was playing it because I was so unsettled. Now, I’m not sure if my memory is accurate but I remember playing through a part where the main character is underground swimming? That’s all I remember, would appreciate if anyone can give me the answer I’ve been looking for years for

How can people play thrill kill or sell psychical copies if it was banned?
Hey guys I have a question. So there's a video game for the PS1 called thrill kill. The thing most known about it was that it was banned. I heard because it got a Adults only rating and the company didn't want to risk the backlash and sales so they cancelled it despite it being done.
But there's people online playing it and I seen people selling copies of the game like this picture above. So my question is how are people able to play it and most importantly selling it? And are the copies being sold legit?

Bought my first PS1
Bought it for 28 dollars. Came with everything in the picture. It looks practically new, seems like it was barely used. I dont have any games currently, but I've tried audio CD and it played it flawlessly. Im wondering, should I install a modchip or just let it be? Finding original games in my area is very hard.
I thought about installing xStation but seems like its not supported for this model(what a bummer).
Anyways, likely gonna sit in my collection unused for now, I have other ways of playing PSX games. But still, very proud of this find.

Malcolm in the Middle S7 E14 timestamp: 7:58. I can see from the spine it is a ps2 game up front but not sure of the title. The other next to it looks like maybe a PS1 long case.
