Coursify is back, and it’s better

Hey everyone! A month ago, I officially released coursify! Since then, we’ve got a whole team of devs working hard on some new features that I’m excited to announce:

Plan courses: view all the upcoming offerings in solus and use it to generate possible schedules

Degree planner: plan out your entire degree and your plan, keep track of gpa etc

Check it out at: https://www.coursify.ca

First year courses to take online

Which first year core courses do you recommend to take online? I want to do most of them blended but if there are any that are not really worth going in person for/are just better to do online then lmk!

Problems with physics as a first year.

So apparently a lot of US med school require both PHYS 115/116 and I'm finding it really hard to fit those that and CHEM 112 in my schedule. I was wondering if taking PHYS 118 online during summer worth it. People say since its a 6 unit course not a 3 unit, so it contains both contents from PHYS 115 and 116, so the prerequisite for med school would be finished during summer.!!

AP credit transfer

Incoming first year: my plan was to take chem 112 and some sort of bio course (either 102 or 103) as my elective/option courses but I was wondering if it would make sense for me to use my AP scores to transfer the credits (I took both AP chem and AP bio and got a high enough score on both).

Are there any downsides to using AP transfer credits? Or should I just take the classes? Idk if it will affect future courses I wanna take like biochem or orgo and I also dk if it’s a bad look for med schools if I don’t take chem 112 and bio102/3. Any opinions? What should I do

Gr. 11 here , how should I start preparing now for the BHSc supplementary application?

I'm currently in Grade 11 and planning to apply to Queen's Health Sciences this December.

I know the supplementary application has both the live interview (with about 2 minutes to prepare before speaking) and the timed writing component, so I was wondering what people actually did to prepare.

For current students or people who were admitted:

  • How did you prepare for the live speaking portion?
  • How did you prepare for the writing portion?
  • Did you practice with sample questions?
  • Did you use a coach or reviewer? If not, who gave you feedback?
  • Looking back, what would you have done differently?
  • What do you think Queen's is actually looking for in applicants during the interview and writing?

I'd love to start preparing early if there's anything I can work on over the summer.

should i take BIOL 102/3 or BIOL 212?

Hello! I'm a first year BHSc student trying to choose my courses.

In order to fulfill the lab prerequisite at UOttawa med, I'm planning to take either BIOL 102/3 or 212. I originally wanted to use my AP Biology score as transfer credit for BIOL 102/3, but it's hard to find another course with a lab component besides BIOL 212.

I'm open to suggestions for other courses with labs! I currently plan to take CHEM 112 alongside another course with a lab.

Does anyone know if BIOL 212 is GPA friendly, and if a first year student should take this course? Or if they should take BIOL 102/3 instead?

Thank you!

CHEM 112 and PHYS 115/116

I’m an incoming 1st year into the program as a premed and looking to choose chem 112 and phys 115/116 as my option/elective courses, however it seems like theres no way that I can fit them together due to conflicting schedules. So I’m wondering if phys 115/116 is really needed for MCAT preparation, or if it’s better to self study when the time comes and choose two other courses for first year.

BHSC Online (Incoming 1st year)

Help me make it make sense!

The degree format seems to offer more flexibility- I'm wondering if we have a min/max course load per semester?

I've done online studies before, however never something with labs...how do these work for science based courses?

To ease in to first year...what courses (course load) do you suggest - any preference to do this in fall/that in winter, strategies are everything!

I would love the wisdom of others who have gone before and know this path well :)

Super excited for this journey.

When do I need to begin planning courses?

I’ve seen many incoming first years already fully planned their courses in and out, while I haven’t even began looking at them.

I know earlier is better but how much planning does it actually take? Is it fine to just take like a few days before my selection date?

REPD 372 : Onl or Bln

I’ve heard a lot of negative stuff about this course and was wondering if there is any advantage to taking it online or blended

For blended, there are 2 options: one where the Instructor is Natale and the other one where the Instructor is Staff, does it matter which one I take?
Thanks!

phgy 215 summer

I got a 86.67% on the midterm (worth 50%), meaning that I will need to get at least a 93.3% on the final to end the course with an A+. Should I drop the course or take the gamble?

Ranking 1st year courses

From the list below, how would you rank the difficulty of each course from hardest to easiest:

  1. ANAT 100
  2. GLPH 171
  3. HSCI 190
  4. IDIS 173
  5. PHAR 100
  6. PHGY 170

I know that difficulty is subjective, but I’m curious about the general consensus or which course surprised you the most.

Thanks!

Courses 💔

I am an incoming first year with not a clue in the world! Im on a pre-med track just like the other 90% of health sci students and all I want is a high gpa. I am someone who works hard and got good grades even while my school was known for having a heavy course load but I need stuff that is like basically GUARANTEED A+ 😭. I love learning so I am passionate about a variety of topics….however I am absolutely trash at chemistry. If you have any ideas that will save my life please let me know 🫰

Hey I'm an incoming hsci student and I was scrolling through the course slots on Solus js cuz i wanted to start thinking abt schedulling and stuff. So, I was looking at one of the core courses, PHGY 170, and I noticed that two of the "sections" or wtv seem identical but are separated for some reason?? Is there a difference between the top 2 options (4874 and 4878) or r they js the same thing? thx for the help guys im js a bit confused lmao

3rd year courses

With the course selection starting, I was wondering if you guys could provide feedback on these 4 courses: PATH 381, GLPH 385, HSCI 383, and ANAT 380

Mainly I want to know:

  1. How much is the workload?
  2. How difficult the course is (easy to get A+)?
  3. Should I take it online or blended? Or doesn’t matter?

Thanks everyone!
