Tips on how to "reset" progress sync

I use readest across multiple iOS devices. My goal is to sync reading progress, status, and group assignments but NOT load my titles to the readest cloud. I don't know if it's due to the last release or turning off cloud upload, but my progress sync isn't working. Any tips on how to get it going again?

Cloud storage costs

New to Readest as an alternate platform to the biggies (Apple Books, Kindle, Kobo, etc). I’d like to be able to use Readest paired with my own cloud storage to keep all my DRM-free books there and simply download them to my device when I want, but I am confused about the cloud costs in the premium plans. What exactly am I paying for if all the cloud storage is mine (and I’m already paying for it)? Should this not be a simple payment to unlock the cloud storage adapter and then I can fill it up as much as my storage plan allows for?

Sorting by unread

Unsure if I am missing something simple here. But my sorting selections are Group by > Books, Sorting by > Progress read descending, Then by > none. Yet the resulting book are a bit jumbled eg 3 finished books first, then 1 in progress, 1 unread, 1 finished etc. There are several unread books in the list not showing at the top here. Cant seem to get a consistent order regardless of which sorting options I choose. I would like the top books (top row below recently read) to be those that are unread. Any tips?

Audiobook support?

Have you guys seen “Continuum: Read & Listen” app on iOS app store.
Allows epubs to sync to mp3 or m4b audiobooks.

Seems a nice solution without having to do the epub3 route. I was curious if you guys have plans for something like this?

Thank you for your time.

Best,
Dylan

[Feature Idea] Multi-Character Dynamic TTS: give every character a voice — and every line the emotion it deserves

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about a feature that could make Readest’s TTS feel much more like an actual audiobook: Multi-Character Dynamic TTS.

The idea is pretty simple:

  • One narrator voice for narration.
  • Different voices for different characters.
  • Dialogue delivery changes based on the text.

For example:

>“Get out,” John whispered.

The engine would recognize whispered and make the line quieter and softer. Words like shouted, angrily, hesitantly, or slowly could similarly affect speed, pitch, volume, and pauses.

The interesting part is that this could potentially work without an LLM:

  • Dialogue parser separates narration and dialogue.
  • Speaker detection identifies who is speaking.
  • A small prosody dictionary maps words like whispered or shouted to voice parameters.
  • Everything is converted to SSML for the TTS engine.

This could stay local, lightweight, deterministic, and private.

I’m curious what people think:

  • Would you actually use something like this?
  • Automatic or manual character voice assignment?
  • Any issues with Readest’s current TTS architecture that could make this difficult?

New Feature Request - An Important One

This Feature is really BASIC and straight-forward, which might improve the overall reading experience in the Readest app, and I wonder why the devs have not added this feature till date!

Okay so, I have been using Readest for quite a few days now, I love the dark theme of the app, but I need a good reading experience in my reader also! So when I open a book in the reader, everything is BLACK with white font, which I do not find ideal for reading an e-book. To get that PHYSICAL BOOK experience I need to change the theme to Light, apply custom paper background of the reader and, when I close the book my screen FLASHES the LIGHT MODE!

You guys really have seperate background wallpapers for both Library and Reader, but you do not have separate themes?! This really spoils the app experience for me, as everytime after reading the book I need to change the themes again and again. It would really be helpful and useful for the app experience if the devs address this issue

TTS pronunciation

I was wondering is it possible to fix the pronunciation of words in Readest??? If not would be a cool thing to add in the future if possible

Nouvelle utilisatrice

Bonjour, j'ai découvert récemment Readest grâce à Reddit et je l'adore. Cette appli reconnaît parfaitement les epub, elle est fluide et personnalisable. C'est vraiment un plaisir de l'utiliser.

Serait-il possible d'ajouter des raccourcis sur le bureau pour les livres comme le proposent Moon+ reader ou PocketBook ?

C'est la seule fonction qui me manque.

Merci pour votre écoute.

Release cyle

What is the typical release cycle for readest?

Is it periodical? Based on the content? Other?

It seems they are not using a Continuous Delivery workflow.

Thanks,

Feature request - book title in header

Really minor thing, but it would be awesome to be able to add the book title to the header. It makes reading on a tablet feel much more like a book, IMO.

How do I install built-in dictionary (Oxford dictionary) in the readest app?

If you have the supported file, please share. Thanks.

Pages left in chapter takes too much space on small screens

The “X pages left in chapter” indicator consumes a huge amount of the bottom bar, especially on smartphones and phone-sized e-readers. In the example above, it takes roughly ⅔ of the available status-bar space

Other reading platforms solve this much more compactly by showing a negative page count, for example: “-10” which means 10 pages remaining in the chapter (and remaining minutes as -5m for instance, which means 5 minutes remaining); This communicates the same information while using a fraction of the space, leaving room for overall page progress and other useful indicators

I’d love to see Readest adopt this compact format, at least as an option, small label change with massive user experience value
