Feedback on Gen Physics class
Is this considered a weed out class? Feedback would be much appreciated.

Hi Owls, Rice really piqued my interest. It’s on my college list and I wanted to hear from you guys. Thanks
My son just matriculated to Rice University and he tells me that he has to take required Human Sexuality and DEI classes, and that these are either for no credit hours or they are pass/fail only (not sure which, but I think he said the former). This sounds like a new requirement; there was no such thing in place when I went to Rice back in the day. Normally he doesn’t complain about these things, but he indicated that the scheduling is really inconvenient when scheduling around his in-major classes. And I can’t help but think that he may feel it is a waste of his time. If I’ve done my job right as a parent, then he doesn’t need these classes, though to be fair I’m sure all parents feel this way and no doubt there is a history that made Rice admin require this.
So, I’m just wondering, has anyone else heard of this and (to the students), what do you think about them after having taken them? Is it true that you have to take them during the first year only? Is it true that you don’t get credit-hours for them? What kind of weekly time-commitment do these courses require?
how does martel enforce move in times (if at all)? my time is at 9 which barely gives me 2 hours so i was hoping to get there at 8:30 instead
The University of Tulsa announced Tuesday that annual tuition and fees are moving from $54,000 to $25,000, making it the most affordable private research university in America.
Presumably this could reduce additional financial aid opportunities, while at the same time making tuition fee significantly more transparent and, I’d argue, fairer across the entire student body.
I dont understand the differences between Honors Calc III and Honors calc IV (MATH 221 and Math 222, respectively)
I've done Multivariable before, so I'm familiar with Stokes theorem, Greens theorem, etc. and want a class where I re-learn that and more. What exactly is the difference between the two?
EDIT: another question I wanted to add on. Does Math 221 cover ODE's if I've never taken them before? or do you reccomend I just take ODE's + Linear Algebra?
At Rice, all language classes meet for 150 minutes a week (either 50 min on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or 75 min on Tuesday and Thursday). At nearly all other schools, classes meet for 200-300 minutes per week, with harder languages (like Arabic or Chinese) meeting on the higher end of that range.
For an unknown reason, ALL language classes (and most other classes) are capped at 150 minutes per week. This means you may move at HALF the pace of your peers at other universities.
I’m a chem major studying Arabic. Feel free to dm if you have questions.
hi everyone! I just started skateboarding and was wondering if anyone else would be interested in practicing together once or twice a week. thanks!
has anyone received that email that they said theyd send with specific times to move in and all that info yet?
taking orgo 1 this semester with tour for lecture, o'leary for discussion. best advice for pre-meds who are running the gauntlet with this class? i was kinda shit at gen chem (b+ in 121, c+ in 122 bc i was depressed af) because i suck at math and its a shit ton of math (imo) but i know gen chem and orgo are two separate beasts. literally any advice (other than drop out) would be helpful !!!
