Pink ruby ring weird appraisal, thoughts?

Hi guys,

I am after some second eyes on this appraisal for this ring I found on marketplace. I am wanting to pick up today for 300 AUD as advertised.

The thing that is stumping me is the appraisal, it states 8 stones with a total weight of .1, but i only see 2 diamonds.

The appraisal also doesn't comment on the ring size, which is usually included.

I've looked up who the appraiser is, and she's a real person, I am just second guessing myself.

Location: Australia 🇦🇺 l

Edit: thank you all for your responses. I've decided not to go ahead with the purchase. I am glad I asked for thoughts and opinions 😌

Does anyone here collect rings just because they like it?

I like rings. I think they're gorgeous. But I think it's ridiculous how people are prone to assume that it has to do with an engagement. Why can't I just buy an expensive ring just because I'm bougie lol? It's so weird. I feel like rings are always associated with engagements for some reason.

I’ve started looking for interesting jewelry finds for a great price. I picked this Sterling Moonstone and Topaz ring in an auction and I just wanted to share. My first ever moonstone and it’s a vibe.

does anyone else feel like halo rings get way more hate online than they do in real life?

this is mostly just me venting for a second.

i absolutely love my ring. it's a halo, and every time i look at it i still smile. my husband picked it, i said yes with it, and i honestly wouldn't change that. but lately i've noticed so much negativity around halo rings online. every other video or comment seems to call them "dated," "tacky," or "cheap," and i just don't get it.

it honestly made me second guess my own ring for a minute, which is kind of ridiculous because i never felt that way until social media started feeding me those opinions over and over.the funny thing is, i've never had anyone say anything negative in real life. if anything, people compliment it. it seems like all the criticism exists online.i know everyone has different taste, and that's totally fine. some people love solitaires, some love halos, some love vintage styles. that's what makes jewelry interesting.

i just wish people didn't act like one style is objectively "better" than another. at the end of the day it's an engagement ring, not a competition, and every ring represents someone's relationship and a really happy moment in their life.

any other halo owners ever have one of those moments where social media got into your head for no reason?

Just made myself a new ring

Ring is made of sterling silver, and all the engraving was done with a laser. Has my last name on it, and the year my wife and I got married.

would you rather have a deeply personal ring or a more traditional diamond?

i'm planning to propose to my girlfriend sometime next year and i've been going back and forth on the ring. i know there isn't really a "right" answer, but i'd genuinely love to hear what other people think.

we took our first trip together to scotland a few years ago, and while we were there she completely fell in love with these rings made with scottish marble. we almost bought one, but they didn't have her size and we ended up leaving without it. i've always kind of regretted not going back for it. ever since then i've had this idea in my head. instead of buying a traditional diamond ring, i was thinking about making one myself. white gold, an oval piece of green scottish marble, and maybe a tiny hidden diamond set inside the band. i know it wouldn't be the flashiest engagement ring, but it would have so much meaning behind it. i'd even make it myself if i can pull it off.

at the same time i keep second guessing it. i've been looking at more traditional custom engagement rings too, and part of me wonders if years from now she'd wish she had something more classic that she could easily wear with a wedding band every day. she's never been someone who cares about expensive jewelry, and i'm almost certain she'd appreciate the story and effort more than a bigger diamond. but i also don't want to let my own sentimental idea get in the way of something she'd enjoy wearing for the rest of her life.

what would you honestly choose?

would you rather receive a ring with a really personal story behind it, even if it's less traditional, or a classic diamond ring that goes with everything?

Where do you buy gold jewelry that actually lasts? ⭐

I wear a ring on pretty much every finger I’ve got left (minus the thumbs). It’s kind of my thing. Most of my rings come from pawn shops and thrift stores because I haven’t found many online shops I trust for quality gold. Since I wear them every day and never take them off, I’m looking for pieces that can actually hold up.

What are your favorite online stores for quality gold jewelry (doesn’t have to be solid)? Bonus points if they have crystal or gemstone pieces too.

I placed an order with ATOLEA, but after reading Reddit reviews I got sketched out and canceled it.

✨including pictures of my current collection✨

If this isn’t allowed, feel free to remove it. I’m not looking for a specific piece—just general store or brand recommendations.

Someone ended up with a sick wedding ring out there.

Over the years I’ve wrapped a lot of pieces, but some of them go way beyond “jewelry.”

I’ve had the honor of working with ashes from a loved one, turning grief into something you can actually hold onto. I’ve created memorial pieces that carry stories words can’t really do justice to. I’ve even wrapped wedding rings in ways that mark not just a moment, but a whole chapter of someone’s life.

Those are the kinds of pieces that slow you down while you’re working on them. You’re not just shaping metal—you’re holding space for memory, love, loss, and everything in between.

It always makes me curious though… every artist and collector ends up with their own set of meaningful stories.

What’s the most meaningful piece you’ve ever made for yourself, or been trusted to create

A Georgian styled ring, made real by FayJewelry

I named this ring "Evelyn" after my mother who had a huge jewelry collection. I now have her name engraved in all the rings Cherry at Fayjewelry makes me.

The design of this ring started when I saw a genuine antique, early 1800s ring with a pear shaped, rose cut diamond that was $34,000 and looked like it had been pulled from a fire. I did like the styling and using both Ai and Photoshop I came up with this. While this only hints at the original , I loved the "round diamond over pear" look.

With this ring I found the setting idea first. I needed a short, squat pear which was not so easy to find. This ring from top to bottom is now about 17.5 mm and a typical long, slim pear would not have worked. The Pear is a warm H color and 2.40 carats from Aurelinne and was $465.50.

Cherry at Fayjewelry crafted a perfect setting for $850 after my renders were turned into a working CAD. Cherry is excellent to work with when it comes to creating the CAD and this was not an easy ring to do. Fayjewelry supplied all the lab diamonds except the pear of course. 5 weeks after paying for it I had it and Expressions Jewelry in Central Virginia set the pear for $30. Total cost for this OOAK ring in a Georgian style, $1,345.50

18k ring, received in 2000.

I received this ring from a family member who I've lost contact with many years ago. The only mark visible is 18k. She has lived between France and Quebec and had an assortment of fine jewelry and costume peices. Google lens says it might be from the Joan Rivers collection. I'd love to know more.

Is this ring too big and too flashy?

Hi,

i just graduated and my mom wanted to buy me a gift, a ring. She wanted me to choose it and I did. I really want this ring to be my memory, whenever I’ll look at it, I’ll think of my mom. Although, my brother his wife and my coworkers said it’s very big and one of my coworker thought I am engaged. Now I think I regret this choice because maybe I should have chosen something simpler. Do you guys buy yourself rings or someone does that for you but not as engagement ring? could you please share with me?

Silver turning gold?

I have this ring from my ex and he bought it from eBay right before our breakup so I don't know much about it's history. He knew I preferred silver and hated gold, so when I was given this ring I was confused to see that it was stamped 925 but somehow looked like a dual tone between silver and gold. The lighting in the pictures hide it a bit, but it's still visible. I'm not sure if it's possible to be oxidization but I don't even wear it for obvious reasons. I have another ring made of silver that is starting to show signs of the same gold-ish color showing around the edges, but nowhere near as bad and I wear that one everyday.

Ring size advice!

Hi all! I’m just looking for some advice as I am STRUGGLING between a 7.5 or an 8 while trying out engagement ring sizers - I wanted to ask if anyone thinks the 7.5 causes too much of a ring muffin top or if I'm just overthinking and that's the way my fingers are? They honestly both feel comtortable, the 8 is obviously just looser when taking it. It doesn't teel like it's gonna fall off but there isn't much resistance when sliding it off. I've read all about the fingers swelling/cold weather and all that jazz lol but just wanted some advice from others that were between sizes. I've considered a 7.75 but have heard 1/4 sizes can be difficult sometimes with wedding bands.
TIA!!

Pls ignore my awful grown out nails, my nail lady returns from vacay on Friday 🥹

I lost an important ring that was from boyfriend’s family. I am devastated. I am looking for it but incase i would want to try to look for the exact or similar ring.

I found a very similar ring from James Avery but the only thing is the font is different. Is there any way i can choose my own font? Or if maybe we can find the exact ring incase it’s not from James Avery. Im open to hear any advice. It genuinely would be appreciated! I am honestly at a loss because it was super important to me and I’m really devastated i could lose something so important to me. (The first 3 are pics of the rings we had 2 but one went missing :( the last photo is the one from James Avery website thats closest I gotten. Only thing is the font of the original ring we still have is different from the ones they offer online.)
