Do you think we’ve moved beyond the controversy of the franchise?

Do you think we’ve moved beyond the controversy of the franchise?

From its inception as a top-down perspective game through to its 3D update, GTA as a series has been plagued with controversies. From excessive violence in its original incarnation, to claims of it being too realistic in GTA III, the infamous, and probably largest controversy, Hot Coffee in San Andreas, the drunk driving outrage in GTA IV and its depiction of full frontal male nudity and as “recently” as the last entry, GTA V with it mission involving torture. The series has faced intense scrutinisation form “child protection” groups, multiple US politicians such as Hilary Clinton and Leland Yee and resulted in countless think-pieces and articles about how the franchise was “corrupting your children” and added fuel to the ever-raging “videogames are bad for kids” argument.

But with the way the world is today, with the vast access and constant vicinity to media, with the saturation of violence in films and television, with filmmakers and creators taking bigger more creative risks in the public eye, for example the rise of “Eleveated Horror” over the last decade and its massive success, is the world as sensitive as it once was?

Even looking at the current political state in the US and the way the government has handled itself over the last 10-12 years and even here in the UK, the way our government has been frankly embarrassing, has left me thinking about how we’ve strayed far too closely into the biting and, at the time ridiculous, satire that Grand Theft Auto so often revelled in presenting.

Ultimately, my question is this: With the release of GTA VI, do you think we, as a society, have moved beyond the controversy of Grand Theft Auto, have our delicate sensibilities blossomed into a more mature and accepting state for media, or will the frenzy once again win out. Or perhaps you think Rockstar will still manage to pull something out of their sleeve to shock, irritate and provoke? I’m interest to hear your thoughts.

R* /Gta 6 critical turning point?

Just like without Hideo Kojima, Konami never felt capable of carrying the Metal Gear series the same way again. That’s why some fans are worried about GTA 6 too — because without Dan Houser, there’s always that fear Rockstar might struggle to deliver the same masterpiece-level storytelling and atmosphere that made their games legendary(Note- This will only apply if Dan didn't guide the lead writers before leaving R*)

Infact if we talk about graphics, they will downgrade it like hell beacuse of consoles.

What r ur thoughts ??

THE Music moments in Rockstar Games

I was playing some songs tonight while playing gtaonline after getting tired of the radio stations lol and heard The Isley Brothers’ “Footsteps in the Dark.” Anyone who’s played GTAIV knows the moment this song comes on, it’s like the game is suspended in time. It’s a poignant moment, one of the most poignant in gaming. And that got me to thinking R* has A LOT of these moments in different games. 6 immediately came to mind.

GTA Vice City: Billie Jean by Michael Jackson

GTA IV: Footsteps in the Dark by The Isley Brothers

GTA V: If You Leave Me Now by Chicago

Red Dead Redemption 1: Bury Me Not on the Prairie by William Elliot Whitmore

Red Dead Redemption 2: Unshaken by D’Angelo AND That’s the Way It is by Daniel Lanois

Any other songs make you stop and remember that moment in these games?

Here’s hoping GTA 6 has a song or two like this.

You guys really CANT be serious.

Maybe I just can’t read sarcasm, but I genuinely don’t understand why so many people are acting like GTA 6 being $80 is some outrageous scam. This is the biggest entertainment release of the decade, and people are losing their minds over paying $20 more than the standard price.
The Deluxe Edition isn’t forcing anyone to spend $100. It’s an optional upgrade with a handful of extra features. The base game is still the full game, just like it’s been with countless other titles. Rockstar has done special editions before, and so has pretty much every major game studio. Somehow now it’s suddenly “pay-to-play?”
Pay-to-play would mean you need to spend more money to experience the core game. That’s not what’s happening here. You’re getting the same massive open world, story, online mode, and everything that makes GTA 6 what it is for $80. The extra $20 is there if you want some bonus content, not because it’s required.
People have no problem spending $100+ on a night out, concert tickets, or collector’s editions of games they’ll play for 20 hours. GTA 6 is a game that many people are going to sink hundreds, if not thousands, of hours into over the next decade. If any game has earned the right to charge a premium, it’s probably the one that’s taken over a decade to develop and is expected to be supported for years.
If you don’t think it’s worth $80, don’t buy it. But calling it “pay-to-play” because there’s an optional deluxe upgrade just feels like people looking for something to be mad about.

Digital release

If doing primarily a digital release why not all systems including PC that's pretty questionable business right?

Einige von euch haben meinen Kauf als Fake hingestellt… wie schmeckt euch das?

Why is this community so larping 😭

If only you knew how I hate when people touting their "shared universe" fanfiction as the "truth" and "canon" without even knowing what they're talking about. It would be fine if they admitted it was just their own stupid theories, but no, we're going to misinform people and impose our own lore. Seriously, this stupid theory even includes Max Payne, whose lore was invented and created by Remedy (I don’t give a shit who made the 3rd part, because that’s not the point).

Midnight Club and LA Noire always feature real life cities. RDR also has no connection to GTA lore, as it constantly mentioned real-life locations and there is not a single mention of Liberty City or the state of San Andreas (In GTA, there are instances where real cities are mentioned, but these often appear in side content, such as internet pages, because it's a minor detail when New York or California are never mentioned in the story). It's funny how some fans think that GTA 6 will have mentions or references to Saint Denis (the equivalent of New Orleans in RDR universe) or other locations, while they are 100% unaware that Cottonmouth from Manhunt 2 exists in GTA lore, which is also the equivalent of New Orleans (also partially Atlanta).

Regarding Bully... it's absolute hell. People are foaming at the mouth with the same "proof" of Bullworth's existence in GTA lore, even though they don't understand how lore works. It all started with some kid who wrote about Bully/GTA "connection" on the GTA Wiki 15 years ago because he liked the sound of it, and people decided to spread this crap to the masses, without any verification or critical thinking. I'm sure I would have been killed a couple of years ago if I dared to question the Bully/GTA theory. Explaining why this isn't the case will take a long time, so I recommend you watch [this video](https://youtu.be/OD8zxZwFbjE?si=OLOjaC\_tCM7NsqK7), read [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/GTA/comments/1bzzfbh/bully\_is\_not\_connected\_to\_the\_3d\_universe\_proof/) or [this article](https://gta-myths.fandom.com/wiki/Bullworth). These materials are made very well and I hope they will somehow open the eyes of fans studying game lore.

Again, it's perfectly okay to create fanfiction and headcanons. But passing them off as "canon", forcing them on everyone and thus misleading them, is arrogant and ignorance. Keep your fantasies to yourself and in your own imagination, because you didn't write the lore of these games. Maybe some easter eggs or references on RDR and Bully in GTA have some "special meaning", but you didn't instill it. And remember: all Rockstar universes are independent (with the exception of the Manhunt dilogy which is truly connected to the lore of GTA 3D universe). A few seconds of a certain location or character's appearance on TV doesn't always indicate shared lore, as everything runs much deeper. Don't look at things superficially, have at least a modicum of critical thinking, and be skeptical of strange fan theories while carefully analyzing the information. Even GTA Wiki has long since removed the fake information about Bully and is ready to make further corrections.

What do you think about this? I'm also interested to hear your thoughts on the "Rockstar shared universe" theory.

So is the lack of discs for GTA6 still the result of "leaks" or has the goalpost shifted?

Rockstar and Take2 social media defense force does a better job at justifying their anti-consumer decisions better than their actual PR team.
