Hello! Yesterday, I received these cute bookmarks of Harry Potter characters: on the left are Harry, Ginny, Neville, and Luna; on the right are Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Draco. I hope you find them as cute as I did!

I had ordered these off of Amazon, where a gift card allowed me to buy them without paying anything.

The brand is ReMarks, by the way.

Ranking the films in terms of dirty they do Ron......

Here's my eight knuts:

  1. Order of the Phoenix (OoTP) - Easy since this was the only film not written by Steve Kloves. There were a couple of iffy scenes, the major detraction being the RoR duel with Hermione where he gets his ass handed back to him. In the book, he was proud of the fact that he was able to disarm Hermione a couple of times.

  2. Philosopher's Stone (PS) - I personally feel this had one of Rupert's strongest acting in the franchise, but the cracks here were subtle. The Devil's Snare blundering comes to mind.

  3. Chamber of Secrets (CoS) - They started dropping his IQ like a bag of taters. Hermione taking all his expositional knowledge she wouldn't find in a book. And the way Ron's arachnophobia is treated as a joke by making him all whiny and blubbering. Whereas in the book, the sight of Hermione's empty chair strengthened his resolve enough to accompany Harry despite his fears.

  4. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (DHP2): I felt this was the only Kloves film that took Ron a bit seriously. Considering now that he and Hermione were endgame which the writers didn't care much for until it was too late. Though I did not like how he stayed in the background while Harry and Hermione hug it out after the Prince's Tale. Book!Ron would never let Harry off the hook like that.

  5. Half-Blood Prince (HBP): Barring the teenage angst drama (and of course 90% of Voldemort's past) from the book that was condensed into a cringey lovefest, Ron is turned into a clueless idiot here. Like cracking a joke immediately after ingesting a bezoar. And let's not forget how he loiters in the background in the last scene. In the book, he and Hermione equally assure Harry they will be by his side no matter what.

  6. Goblet of Fire (GoF): I know this book has like the worst Ron moments, but he acts like a totally spoilt brat to Harry. In contrast to the novel where Ron is a sulky brat and Harry isn't as passive-aggressive as he's shown onscreen. Another change I hated was the Yule Ball debacle. In the book, he and Hermione both are at each other's throats, with Hermione finally snapping to let him know his mistake before storming off. In the film, Hermione is reduced to a crying mess.

  7. Prisoner of Azkaban (PoA): The film that sealed it for poor Won-Won. Book!Ron calls out Snape for his rude "know-it-all" comment on Hermione, whereas in the movie he's like "yo Snape has a point". And deadass giving his best moment of standing on A BROKEN LEG defending Harry to Hermione in the Shack. And the saving Sirius ending where both H's laugh at his idiocy. Not to mention this was really where the trio turned into the dynamic duo and their ginger sidekick. Oh, and they also gave Hermione a couple of Harry's lines.

  8. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (DHP1): The worst adaptation in my opinion.

TL: DR: They really massacred my boy here.

Ron asking Hermione out to dance like a man? Screw that, let's have a deleted scene of her and Krum dancing at Bill and Fleur's wedding while Ron is jealous.

Ron's departure being a pent up fissure of nuances plus his accusation of Harry not caring enough about Ginny after hearing she was tortured at Hogwarts? Let's him be overtly jealous of Harry and Hermione bonding whereas in the book it was an internal fear that Hermione would like Harry better than over him.

Film!Ron even crosses the line by telling Harry "YOUR PARENTS ARE DEAD YOU HAS NO FAMILY!" whereas in the book Harry is the one to bring them up when Ron starts comparing Harry and Hermione's plight with what he's got to lose. Ron was an asshole in this moment yes, but we can understand both lads had their reasons. Whereas Film!Harry is more at the receiving end instead.

Harry and Hermione being totally miserable in Ron's absence - to the point Harry later brings it up how much "it" had cost them? No, let's have a Harry and Hermione dance scene that surely could have used a better alternative? Like Harry missing Ginny? Kreacher's Tale? Harry and Hermione stewing in misery over Ron? Harry questioning his faith in Dumbledore?

Or even how Ron was actually able to come back? Book!Hermione mentions his name for the first time after the Nagini ambush that leaves Harry wandless. But no, let's omit that line and let Hermione saying "Maybe we should stay here and grow old Harry" make the cut. The writers really went out on pushing the Harry + Hermione - Ron angle in this one.

The worst is yet to come - the locket scene. Book!Ron is reduced to tears by the mental torture Voldie's soul was dealing. And Harry is the one who breaks the ice by affirming Ron that his love for Hermione has always been like a sister and nothing else more. Not to mention Ron apologises but Harry cuts them off with a sincere hug.

The film be like - we don't do that there. How about let's make Harry cold to Ron's return as opposed to his book couterpart being internally elated. And let's overemphasize the Riddle!Harry-Hermione kiss too. No heartfelt man-to-man exchange needed, a dumb "Well 3 more to go" would suffice.

Lastly, Ron going absolute berserk banging the cellar walls on hearing Hermione's screams at Malfoy Manor? Screw that, screw how much that boy loves her and replace it with a weak "we have to do something" concern.

Rant over. Peace out. ✌️
