Roomba 960 Filter

I purchased a second hand Roomba 960 and I replaced the filter, I recall that the one I tossed/replaced had a mesh that captured the dust, almost like the lint drawer inside a dryer, but the new one doesnt have it. Was this changed by the manufacturer? I have 2 other new filters and none of them have the mesh on the side that picks up the dust.

[Academic] Own or ever owned a robot vacuum? Repair behavior survey (Everyone)

Hi r/SampleSize,

I'm a final-year business student at KLU Hamburg writing my bachelor thesis on consumer repair behavior for robot vacuums.

The survey takes 8–10 minutes and is open to anyone who currently owns or has previously owned a robot vacuum — brand and price range don't matter, and you qualify whether you still have it or not.

The study explores how owners feel about their devices and what they decide when something breaks: repair, replace, or something else. It feeds into a broader thesis on when it makes strategic sense for manufacturers to invest in repair programs beyond what EU regulation requires.

Fully anonymous. No personal identifiers collected. Academic use only.

Happy to share aggregate results here once the thesis is complete — just drop a comment or DM.

Thanks!

Most Iconic Roomba Of All Time?

hello Roomba enthusiasts! I have actually had to make a Reddit account to talk to people. On that note I truly do appreciate your interest in Roombas and I think it’s bad ass to be passionate anyways I am working on an art project and I want to coat a Roomba in a material I’m not gonna get into the details because my art is so secretive and so hidden (I’m joking. It’s one of my first pieces) but anyways, I want to know if you guys what is the most iconic Roomba like whether it be OG or just the best version of a Roomba I’m curious what you guys decide is the proper item that you would turn into Roomba art! I don’t really care about the technology of its vacuuming, more just iconic silhouettes. I appreciate all feedback and I love you guys’s community! thanks for reading.

Max 705 Brain Dead Over Night

I purchased a Max 705 in December of 2025 to replace my aging Roomba.

It has been working fine for the first 5ish months. But recently it became worthless.

It started with it not finishing the routine. It would stop halfway though, go home and call it done. Recently it wouldn't even start the routine - didn't even error. If I manually start it, it would move 2 feet from the base and say it got stuck.

Today it told me it now has an incompatible map and I would need to delete it and remap my house. So I deleted the map and initiated a new mapping (explore). The Roomba went about 5 feet from base, turned around and started smashing into everything trying to redock and ended up stuck. I tried remapping a few times and gave up, clearly something is off.

I am perplexed how everything could just stop working. There have been no changes in the past 5 months. My Roombas are set it and forget it. I didn't even open the app for 3 months because it just worked...

What can I do to resolve this? Presently my 6 month old vacuum is a paperweight.

S9+ docking problem (already replaced treads)

Starting a few months ago, my s9+ seemingly lost the ability to climb all the way up onto the dock. It was doing this successfully for years prior to that, in this same spot.

It also was more frequently getting stuck in other places around the house, so when I read on here that the fix is to replace the tire treads, I did that. It has nice thick treads again.

Unfortunately, this has not solved the docking problem; the attached video was taken immediately after replacing the treads.

I tried to get it to dock 5 different times, and all 5 of them failed the same way: the robot made it partway up the dock and then just started rocking back and forth in place until I manually pushed it the rest of the way.

Any other suggestions on steps I can take to try and resolve the docking problem?

I have roomba i7 and my smart maps look like this:

It's obvious that my flat doesn't look like what is shown on this smart map. In the beginning, when it first made the map, the layout was more or less accurate, but now I can't even recognize my flat. Do you have this problem, and maybe you know a solution on how to manage it?

The funny think is that we don't have any carpet. We have solid wood floor everywhere.

can you identify this piece?

I have a 25-month-old iRobot Roomba i7 (the warranty expired just one month ago). It suddenly stopped working, and after sending it to customer support they told me it’s not repairable and suggested I buy a new one — without offering any discount.

They sent me these photos saying that these are the damaged parts, but I don’t really know what I’m looking at. Do you know what components these are? Is this something I could try to replace myself?

The alternative would be throwing the robot away even though it’s only just over two years old.

Any help would be much appreciated! thank you!

Navigation sensor may be covered by an object. (100 @1000 series) - HELP

Please help me! I can't figure out how to get my Roomba 100 (1000 series) up and running. This model is only the vac, no mop. The Roomba doesn't give an error code, only an voice message " Navigation sensor may be covered by an object. This sensor is the black visor in front of the robot". Sometimes I get a notification saying the Roomba is stuck, other times it just says Roomba needs help. When I click the notification, the app opens and it shows the Roomba as "paused". I've cleaned every sensor under it. I've cleaned over and under the black visor that is on the front bumper. I've even blown pressured air to dislodge and particles in that opening. The black visor is scratched but I doubt it should be that bad to causes the issue. ( Picture included) Please help :(

Is a AutoEmpty Dock worth it?

I plan to join the roomba community with a Roomba 105 combo that's currently 50% off (150€ / 175$). That's without the dock and I wondered if the 70€ / 80$ extra for the dock are worth it. I live in a small flat with two long haired people so there will be a decent amount of stuff to clean. But as a university student I want to keep the price low.

Any experiences/advice?

This is the worst product I’ve ever owned.

This stupid machine. I’ve owned it for a month. It has never once completed a cleaning cycle without my help. It constantly gets stuck. After the first week I thought it would learn to avoid the places it got stuck. No. It memorized them and instead of randomly happening upon bad places it will bee-line straight to them.

Its newest joy is to move 6”-12” from the dock turn 90 degrees and ram straight into my file cabinet. Then just repeatedly ram itself into my filing cabinet until it “needs help”. When I move it (no matter where I move it to) it will go straight back to my cabinet and ram it until it needs help again.

I’m going back to sweeping.

Roomba is not being emptied by base station.

My Roomba 105 isn’t being emptied by the base station. It makes the big vacuum noise and says that it is emptying, but the dust bin on the Roomba just keeps filling up until the Roomba can’t pick anything up anymore and I have to manually empty it.

Help. I have no idea whats wrong here.

So i have a Roomba J7 or J7+ its the one without the large docking station.

Currently runs fine when hoovering with no issues.

But when set to mop, he lowers his mop, proceeds to dampen it ( which he doesn't it is dry ). Then just kind of wiggles backwards and forwards like its got no traction on the wheels.

Im really lost here, i have had the rollers, tank and what not off, cleaned the nozzles underneath and im a bit stuck. Any help would be great!

Thanks very much ! :)

Why does roomba always miss this half of my living room??

It’s not grayed out, it’s all registered as part of the area. Roomba gets it if I set a clean zone there, but a basic clean it does this. There’s nothing in the way, I always pickup before it starts. I have the 500 dual mop and vac.

‘Empty Bin’ button missing, won’t self empty the bin after docking. Troubleshooting?

I went through the basic troubleshooting with customer service. This started a few months ago, and I was able to temporarily resolve it by doing a factory reset, but that didn’t work this time. Any other options?

It’s an i5+ I’ve had for two years.

Customer service told me to buy a new one.
