Taking as much as I want or as little as I can afford and it’s all the same. Nothing fills me because only one thing will do. I’m trying to think of exactly the right word, the right metaphor, the great metonym for all this. One sided, unrequited, impossible. Of all possibilities this falls squarely into that of unrealisable. And yet she is the sun, and I a small planetary body pulled in by gravity. Yes. There it is. I am intractably sunk in her forcefield. One faraway day in the cosmos, the light will go out and I’ll be free again.
