Needing outdoorsie friends

I’m 21f (22 in July) looking for some new friends in San Diego. I spent 4 years in Chicago and work a very closed off job now in San Diego and I need to get out of the house.

I’ve been looking into doing Pilates, some beach hikes/walks, nice drinks, baseball games, arts and crafts and whatnot. I’m trying to be more sociable out here and to get out more and find new enjoyment.

I’d love to make new friends out here and start to get out of my shell :)

Best Time to get to Sunset Cliffs National Park?

Three friends and I want to do a cute little sunset picnic on Sunset Cliffs National Park on a Wednesday in June. Will probably just Uber to avoid the parking pain.

What time should we get there to get a decent spot? I heard it fills up quick.

Also what food / drinks are allowed for the picnic?

Live comedy/dating show Saturday night.

Hey y'all - I host a comedy/dating show and the next one is this Saturday night at the Hilton Gaslamp. Everyone gets wristbands based on relationship status & preferences - aka couples are welcome too and they can win prizes for being good wingpeople. :)

It turns into an after-party and everyone hangs out at the hotel bar. Lots of couples & friendships coming out of it, so come on by!! If you come, say hi after the show! I'll be at the merch table!

The show is called Love Isn't Blind.

Thanks!

Sister needs friends (26f)

Hey yall! My sister moved to San Diego last year from Austin, and has struggled to make friends there. She’s really cool! She’s into fashion, tattoos, hiking, animals, and has a really good taste in music. She has 2 cat’s I believe (at least one) and is in a graduate program for interior design. She’s probably looking for other female friends there, probably mid to late 20’s fyi. Thank you for taking the time to read!

Any women in SD down for a casual Rummikub night?

Hi! I’m (33f) thinking of starting a casual Rummikub game night in North Park, more social than competitive.

Probably geared toward women in their mid 20s-late 30s looking to meet new people and do something low-key during the week. No experience needed, my friend and I would be happy to teach 🙂

Thinking of doing the first one next Thursday (5/21) after 5pm.

If you’d be interested, just comment and I’ll follow up via DM with details!

Thrift stores in Hillcrest

Looking for recommendations for thrift stores in Hillcrest

I’m new to San Diego and I know Hillcrest is lgbtq+ friendly neighborhood but wanted to know how realistically friendly is it if I go to a thrift store as a guy shopping for girl clothes.

I have feminine features but I identify as a male but dress as a female in private.

I’m trying to just shop for clothes without inviting unnecessary attention.

Please let me know if this is not a correct subreddit for such discussion and if there is another San Diego based subreddit you could point me to.

Thanks in advance.

Fellow dads - new friends

As dads it can be a challenge to maintain/keep non dad/past friendships and have consistent hobbies/outlets while balancing family/work life.

Putting this thread out there to help us guys renew hobbies that may have fallen to the side as time has passed and perhaps build new friendships along the way.

Throw some details in the comments and when you see similar interests start a sub chat/dm

Myself…

live in La Mesa area
Girl dad (3 and 5 yr old)
Married

Interests:
- surfing
- climbing (haven’t been in over a year)
- staying active (hikes, gym (I go to ocean pacific in PB)
- work in renewable energy and power for data centers
- live music /EDM
-would be down for joining a sports team or something too

Honestly my friends have all either moved away or don’t have kids so their schedules/life don’t align too well and has been really tough to maintain any “guy time/hangouts”

Hope this helps guys out there that feel like they need some guy friendships back in their life while balancing family and career. I’m a great dad/husband, but without a real group of consistent guy friends and hobbies I know I’m losing what makes me a great dad/husband which is having my own identity.

Metal and alt speed dating night in San Diego?🤘

There’s so many boring dating events in San Diego and not enough for THIS scene. What if we held a live cover band + curated speed dating night for the alt, emo, metalcore, and pop-punk crowd?

Structured 5 minute 1:1’s and then headbangers - not just standing around a bar hoping someone talks to you.

If this sounds like your kind of crowd, let me know!

Help Save La Jolla Recreation Center from Closing!

The La Jolla Rec Center isn't just a building—it's where our community actually connects. After decades of being the heart of San Diego, it's now facing closure, and honestly, I can't imagine what we'd lose.

This place is everything to families like mine. It's where kids run safely in the middle of the city, where we've made lifelong friends, where my children learned to play sports and celebrated countless holidays. The rec has hosted events that bring neighbors together—Christmas celebrations with hot cocoa, Easter egg hunts, movies in the park. The staff knows your kids by name and has a bandaid ready when they need one. We've even watched kids and seniors become friends over pickle ball and basketball.

I started this petition because losing the La Jolla Rec Center would devastate more than just families—it would hurt local businesses, eliminate jobs, and strip away one of the few truly inclusive spaces where everyone belongs. The question I keep asking myself: what do we tell our kids when their safe place to play is gone?

If you or your family have benefited from a rec center, or if you think your community needs these spaces, this one's worth fighting for. If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing with others. 💙💙💙
