I’ve been honestly struggling trying to make friends here. I work from home so I don’t have the privilege of making work friends. My partner who just moved down here has made friends from work who we’ll both go hangout with but it doesn’t make me feel better but I feel like it should?I’m not sure what to do. It’s been affecting my mental health so it’s hard to get myself out there sometimes. I like to hike, play my guitar, go on walks, want to get into rock climbing, love playing sports, animals, thrifting, arts & crafts etc. I’m born and raised here but never cared for the people I went to school with back then and my best friend is in LA so it’s pretty rough. I feel like I’m at a loss /:

Karaoke has brought me a stupid amount of joy over the last 5 or 6 years.

Yeah, I love getting up and singing. But what really got me was the community around it.

You start recognizing the same singers. You know which KJs run which nights. You end up in bars you never would've walked into otherwise. Somebody you’ve never met gets up and absolutely crushes a song, or absolutely does NOT crush it, and the whole room is still behind them.

There are a TON of places to sing around San Diego.

The problem was figuring out where the hell they all were.

I kept thinking somebody should build a better way to find all of it.

Then I waited for that person to do it.

And waited.

Eventually I figured out that apparently the person was me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

So I started with my own list of karaoke spots. Then I kept finding more. Then KJs, singers, venue owners and other people in the San Diego karaoke community started helping me correct things, add nights, find places I missed and tell me what would actually be useful.

That became SingHUB.

I built the first version, kept working on it around what people told me they actually wanted, and I just wrapped up a pretty major V2 rebuild.

Now you can find karaoke by night, neighborhood and venue, see who’s hosting, check out the places themselves, and spend a lot less time digging through six-month-old Instagram flyers trying to figure out if karaoke is actually happening tonight.

But I also wanted it to be more than just a directory.

You can start building your own karaoke history, save your performances, earn stars and unlock achievements as you get out and sing.

And you definitely don't have to be the person holding the mic to use it.

If you're the friend who loves going to karaoke, the person looking for a fun night out, somebody following their favorite KJ, or the one cheering way too loudly from the table, I want SingHUB to be useful for you too.

San Diego karaoke people, this is for us first.

I’d eventually love to take what works here and build it city by city, but San Diego is home base. I want this version to be genuinely useful before worrying about taking over the karaoke world. 🎤🌎

born and raised in sd, absolutely obsessed w all things ocean-related, but really trying to get out to the coast and get some snorkeling / swimming or potentially even some whale-watching adventures penciled in asap <3 I am disabled & don't drive so rides def help, down to grab us snacks for the adventures or help w gas as needed (professional passenger royalty, will also pick music u like or be car DJ) , esp since I'd more likely be coming up from tj and generally try to avoid transit ( makes me supersick and I haate getting bothered by creeps so, doesn't feel like the safest option all the time tbh)

I'm usually in sd about once or twice a week and prefer going up in the evenings and / or mid week ( tue-thu ) . I am usually going back & forth for a lot of diff events ( house, electronic, bass, etc) or foodie adventures , especially farmers markets in diff neighborhoods or anything cute, artsy, yum, etc

open to making new friends one on one or making a small group mish about it, sometimes avail for other kindsuv activities & outings but ideally looking to go snorkeling , night swimming ( if there's still bioluminescence happening in the bay) or whale watching within the next week!

happy to exchange socials like ig or fb and go from there, phone is def best for logistics but a regular selfie so I know who I am talking to or potentially meeting and vice versa always helps :)

about me: queer indigenous latina poc (pls no right-wing or kyrarchical anything, I am not a safe space for u. lmao), I smoke weed but thasit ( mostly dabs ) , I have a very cute dog that sometimes joins me on diff adventures / errands , sometimes drink but I prefer healthy bc I get sick so easy and its very exhausting / painful already ( hence the weed). NOT a morning person but I will do my best to get tf up out and across for some good hangs + snorkeling w baby leapard sharks :) evenings are def easier for me and my various illnessess but I cannot be stopped when it comes to swimming (& partying). I sometimes DJ but I avoid telling ppl bc it's not my whole personality or only hobby / career path<3 tho I will turn into stefan if you ask me about something to do in either sd or tj ( even on or especially on a weekday, lol)
