Alex gs songs about being queer
I need to say this to someone and get it off my chest because its been getting on my nerves a lot, especially lately, and please do not misunderstand what im trying to say here nor take what im saying the wrong way. (I am not good with my words and i apologize in advance.)
Ever since alex g started getting the recognition he definitely deserves, ive noticed a real increase in...the wrong people finding his music i suppose? I mean ANYONE can listen to his music, and i am not mad or upset that he blew up on tiktok. Im happy to have so many mutuals now! What i am upset about is the really weird increase in homophobic people finding alex g.
I think anyone whos a fan knows that alex gs songs about the lgbtq are quite surface level actually. A lot of his music is about gay people, trans people, and overall a lot of characters written to be queer in his music. Its no secret - its in his lyrics and it isn't even necessarily subtle.
So im so confused on why so many people are pissed off or shocked when people say songs like the same or in my arms are about the lgbtq? Songs like adam or track 7 that i feel are quite clearly songs about being gay, or at least are written so they can easily be interpreted about queer experiences. I dont get it? Am i missing something? These songs have been deemed as queer coded for years... So why are people getting mad when someone says this? Claiming "sexuality doesn't need to be brought into everything" or refusing to admit that MAYBE a man who doesn't have any toxic masculinity in him is open to writing songs with gay or transgender characters. Am i misunderstanding what his songs are about?? Am i the wrong one? Do you guys understand what im saying? I dont want anything to come across the wrong way, i am just sad these people are finding alex g when hes always wrote about this stuff. Like, for years. But ive noticed people have been like this ever since 2023-2024, around the time he started to get popular. Refusing to admit that he has characters and that not everything he writes is ABOUT alex g himself.
What do you think? Would you say these songs are definitely queer coded or am i wrong entirely? Sorry if i said anything that doesn't sound right, like i said, im not the best with my words.
