American Chinese takeout places that sell fried chicken

Any American Chinese takeout place that sell fried chicken? Not looking for authentic Chinese food. Not interested in Taiwanese popcorn chicken or anything like that. I’m talking bone in fried chicken. Also not interested in Korean fried chicken or anything marinated in a sauce.

I grew up in NYC and there were lots of American Chinese takeout places like that. These places usually serve typical American Chinese food like chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken etc. Haven’t found something similar here.

This is the type of food/place I’m talking about

Silicon Valley Power bills

I'm doing a deep dive to understand my electric bill. I live in Berkeley and have PG&E for my all electric house.

Based on what I can figure out my bill would be waaaay cheaper in SV Power? It's making me wonder if I figured it out all wrong.

  • I have PG&E along with Ava --used E-1 non-tiered: $662.04 for a specific period in using rates for Summer with Baseline territory T.
  • Silicon Valley Power, I used D-1 rates and got $202.87

FWIW, it's for a large dwelling where the total power consumption was 1,107 kWh for the month. But dang, this difference is insane!

Santa Clara Illegally Requiring Service Animal "registration" for 4th of July

The Fourth of July community celebration supposedly requires service animals to be "registered" which is a violation of the ADA.

https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-faqs/#certification-and-registration

https://www.disabilityrightsca.org/publications/fact-sheet-service-animals-in-business-and-public-spaces

I hope this is just a website error and they are not actually asking for this at the gates.

Trying to relocate from the Central Valley

I just started a job in Palo Alto and I’ve been commuting from Modesto to Palo Alto for the last three weeks and it’s not cutting it -lol.

I’m looking for a reasonable yet safe place to live because I have a kid that will be starting junior high/middle school in the fall.

What are some of the best areas that are safe, kid AND pet friendly that will cut my commute down from almost three hours each way every day?

I’m looking for some suggestions so - far I have looked in Fremont, Newark & Union City, but I’m open to any areas of the Bay Area. I moved to Modesto from the east coast during covid, so I really don’t know the areas.

I’m a single parent so I’d like to keep the rental budget for a 2bd below $3k which I know isn’t realistic but I’m optimistic.

Thanks!

Alterations?

Does anyone have a preferred spot for alterations in town? I used to go to Kevin’s Tailoring at Homestead and Lawrence, but now lost to redevelopment. I’m looking for someone who does a decent job, does a hem for $20 or less, and will have the job done when promised.

New to the Bay Area – Where do you buy affordable furniture?

Hi! I just moved to the Bay Area and basically have no furniture.

Where do you recommend buying furniture that's affordable but still good quality? I'm open to both new and used options.

I'm in Santa Clara. Thanks!

Fireworks/Mission College 4th of July celebration

Hi friends would love to take my elder mom to see fireworks. She can’t stand for too long so would be ideal to park and view from the car itself. I do have some camp chairs I could bring to sit outside. But am trying to avoid making her walk too much

Is the view of Great America fireworks pretty good from Mission college parking lot? I presume there are multiple lots so if any are better than the other let me know.

How early do I need to get there to park ?

Any other elder/mobility limited friendly spots to view fireworks? I am open to driving further if needed. Thank you in advance 🙏

Dog boarding

Hi neighbors, does anyone have recommendations for dog boarding for a spicy dog who cannot socialise with other dogs?
He is rarely aggressive with people but since it’s a high stress situation it’s not guaranteed.
We’ve used wag hotels before and had him in a private room with one on one play time but he still comes back with no voice from barking so much and smelling like pee so I’m not sure he’s getting much rest or relaxation at all. So we’re hoping for somewhere that specialises in aggressive dogs or that someone can recommend from experience.
Thanks in advance!

Levi’s Stadium Shade

I’m watching the game tmrw at Levi’s in section 207 in the lower rows. Does anyone know if I will be blinded by the sun the whole time or will I eventually be shaded? Thanks everyone.

WC Fans!

USA vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Wednesday, July 1st at Levi’s Stadium, kickoff by 5pm. Should’ve been one of those nights you tell people about for years.

A health situation came up with my family and we’re not going to make it. I’ve got 4 tickets and would rather they go to someone who’ll actually be in that crowd than sit unused. Face value, no markups.. happy to do 1, 2, or all 4 depending on what you need.

Send me your number if you want them. Go USA. 🦅

From the Pitch to SFO in time?

Going to the US vs B&H game in Santa Clara. Kickoff is at 5pm. Do you think that I will have a problem making it to SFO for a 11:50pm flight?

I will need to either store my luggage somewhere or swing back past the Marriott Hotel (20 min walk from stadium) on the way to the airport to grab my bag.

Looking for thoughts or advice!

Head up, nutjob on Camino dr let's her dog run loose

I had a run in while walking a dog on Camino between Alviso dr and Washington st. Around 715pm on June 27th. Her dog ,a medium grayish poodle looking thing, was up front unleashed while she was on her phone completely unaware. I didn't see the dog till it darted at me and was inches from my dog. She just said "Don't worry he's friendly" and I responded I don't know that, and that I was having to contemplate kicking her dog since it was charging at mine. I told her to leash her f'ing dog. She told me to not walk down "her street" anymore and that if I came back she'd kick my ass. She screamed at me as I walked away, till I turned on Alviso, saying if I came back she'd kick my ass. And how ghetto I was for swearing at her, completely ignoring the fact that she's screeching in the street about how she's going to beat me up while her dog runs loose. She's lucky, I usually carry mace for stray dogs, but didn't think I needed it tonight. I've reported it to animal control. Not sure what else to do.

Update: I've spoken to animal control and they suggested filing a police report. I just left the police station.

Dislike San Jose Bike Party? Let me try to change your mind. If I fail, I’ll do your chores.

I know a lot of people on r/SanJose absolutely hate Bike Party. I’m not here to tell you that every single complaint is fake. Some of the criticisms about traffic or noise are true. But I firmly believe those issues aren't as bad as people think, and that experiencing the actual energy of the ride can completely change your perspective.

I want to test this theory, and I’m willing to put my own time on the line to prove it.

Why am I doing this? It’s a win-win:
My goal here is to build community and improve the image of Bike Party. Because of that, this experiment is a win-win for everyone involved:

  • Scenario A: You come out, you actually have a great time, your impression changes, and we build a bridge between riders and critics.
  • Scenario B: You still hate it, but you walk away knowing that at least one Bike Party member is an upstanding, accountable neighbor willing to work to prove their point—and you get your chores done for free.

The Wager:
Come out to the next San Jose Bike Party and ride with me. If you genuinely have a bad time and leave still hating it, I will refund your invested time minute-for-minute in chores.

  • If you spend 2.5 hours coming out and riding, I owe you 2.5 hours of work.
  • I will wash your car, do your yard work, or clean your house.

How I am proving my accountability:
I know the internet is full of talk, so I am backing this up with public transparency. I commit upfront to making a follow-up post right here on r/SanJose after the event.

  • If you have fun, we will post about our experience together.
  • If you hate it, I will publicly log that I lost the bet and post updates/photos of me fulfilling my chore duties (like mowing your lawn or washing your car). Win or lose, the results will be completely public.

The Ground Rules:

  1. The Minimum Commitment: To collect on the wager, you (or your representative) must ride with us from the start line until at least the first regroup/stop.
  2. Proxy Riders Welcome: If you cannot physically ride a bike, have a physical limitation, or do not own a bike, you are welcome to send a representative to ride in your place to test the theory for you.
  3. Good Faith Only: You don't have to pretend to like it, but whoever rides has to actually show up open to the experience.
  4. Account History: To prevent random burner accounts from gaming this for free labor, your Reddit account must be at least 6 months old and active in local or regional subreddits.
  5. Safety: We will meet up in a public, well-lit area at the start. For everyone's safety, chore fulfillment will focus on outdoor tasks (yard work, car washing) unless otherwise agreed upon.

Next Ride Logistics:

  • Date: Friday, July 17, 2026
  • Meetup Location: San Jose City Hall
  • Timeline: Meet at 7:30 PM, rollout is at 8:00 PM sharp.

You must comment below to RSVP by Wednesday, July 15th so we can coordinate our specific spot at City Hall before the crowd gets too big. I will reply to and publicly confirm every official participant directly in the comment section below so the community can track the wagers.

Bike Party Website for more info: https://www.sjbikeparty.org/

Let's see who is willing to take the bet!

World Cup vs 49er game vibes

Last night I went to Levi’s Stadium aka San Francisco Bay Area Stadium to see Algeria Jordan game. It was surreal event - people from all around the world celebrating. Everyone seemed very positive and chill. Im from S F and have never attended a 49ers game at Levi’s. How is the vibe and what is the typical audience - very different to World Cup?
