Santa Fe has made it nearly impossible for me to be enrolled and receive Aid.

I just wanna preface this by saying CALLING the general front desk today is what triggered me to make this post and I’ll explain.

I called at 12 o’clock today, FIVE HOURS before they closed. Now for the past three months straight, every time I call I’m somewhere between caller number 60-89. today I had the time to sit on the phone for three hours straight in hopes of getting through to somebody, and eventually I am told I’m call number 16. Once the robot finishes her tangent of telling me how appreciative she is in my patience and telling me my position in line, the call ENDS. HANGS UP. I never scheduled an appointment so fast in my goddamn life, I literally just scheduled it with the general tutor advisor just so I can get through to somebody once i’m there. I’ve been sent on a wild goose chase these past three months and every time I get a hold of somebody at Santa Fe College they either tell me they can’t help me or they don’t know what to do and then the call ends. I am told that there is a PDF file for an appeal form that I find in the documents tab— doesn’t exist. I keyword search APPEALS, doesn’t exist. I go to the main Santa Fe website and keyword search appeals, I am given the exact same instructions that I followed previously for the documents tab.
**I feel like I should also mention I’m two hours away from the school with no reliable transportation at the moment so I can’t just “pop in” and get my problem solved, I have to do everything on my end as the student first and then go from there.

here’s my favorite part. when I was given my first communication that my financial aid was suspended, there is a big ass blue button on that document that says, “Start Your Appeal.” imagine my surprise when I click on it and all it does is add a new tab to my browser and reload the exact same page with no changes. So I clear my cache, download and try it on two other browsers, and even try to load it on my cell phone— nothing. At this point, I called the IT desk to at least inform them of this issue on their website. The man then informed me from his end there are no issues with the website. He then tells me based on my situation that at this point, it’s better just to file a complaint and talk to a student advocate. mind you that’s the most helpful information I’ve got from anybody at the school in three months.

so now it’s the first of July, and I am apparently still on a deferment, and it is waiting for financial aid that no longer exists. So at this point, I’m just waiting for them to kick me out of my classes that I have all A’s and B’s in right now. I’m also at the deadline to submit an appeal, even though it doesn’t exist anywhere apparently. I even thought that by clicking that bug blue button maybe it would just automatically download the PDF file. I’ve checked every single folder in my computer there’s NOTHING.

I have an appointment scheduled next week in person and I literally had to recruit somebody to drive me there. If I don’t get answers or a solution, I don’t know what my next course of action would be because it has been out of my hands this entire time and the only thing that would’ve solved. It was being able to get an answer from the people who are supposed to give us answers. I enrolled in college to find some semblance of independence while being a stay at home mom and an abusive relationship that I was trying to escape. Having that aid money also gave me financial independence and I was able to support me and my son fully. In these past few months that I’ve been basically in a standstill, waiting for this money with no solution in sight— I’ve gone from being hopeful that this money will come soon so I can get back on my feet to basically being homeless now. I now basically have to give up my dreams school and go get a full-time job. I’m already past the deadlines and I don’t know how exceptions work with this business. But like I have mentioned multiple times, I have exhausted all of my options as an online student, and it was up to the school to offer me that help and support, and I haven’t received it in any way shape or from the people that I need to.

So if I’m being honest, this post is more to make people aware and see if anybody can relate more than getting advice but if anybody has any tidbits of information that might be helpful as I figure all of this out more and more, that would be awesome. Also, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Current Santa Fe students! Help answer some questions for a WUFT story about the stigma surrounding SF.

Like the title says, I’m a reporter with UF / WUFT in Gainesville, working on a story about Santa Fe College’s reputation in town.

Do you feel like SF students are looked down on by UF students? Or do you feel fully welcomed by them?

Do you feel comfortable mentioning your SF status in town? Do you hide it among certain crowds?

Do you feel like you have had to justify WHY you’re attending SF, or been confronted for it?

Please comment or message me if you’d like your opinions to be included in a published news story on the topic, your help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you! (from a fellow SF grad 👨‍🎓 👋)

Female roommates wanted for a 3x3! $750 a month.

Hi! I’m a student whose current roommates graduated in May and their leases end in July, and I need new roommates come August! I live in a 3x3 about 1.5 miles from campus at Lux 13. You’d have a private bath, we have a balcony, in-unit laundry, free wifi & parking, fully furnished, gym and pool, and we’re right by stops for bus 8 & 10 to get to campus! Walking distance to stuff like boba, sushi, Coffee Culture, Curia, Aldi’s, etc. Please let me know if you’re interested! I’d be happy to send pics, or even have you visit. The complex is also currently running a first month free rent deal, and I’ll cover your first month of utilities if you’re able to apply within two weeks.

Question Regarding Santafe->UF CS bachelor transfer pipeline

I heard pipeline in title used to be quite feasible but last year and this year admissions to UF CS have gone significantly harder and there were plenty of 4.0s from Santa Fe who got rejected

If there’s any stats or anecdotes on this please let me know

Fin aid

Every semester it’s the same issues and the same responses. You’d think that after receiving countless complaints, they’d have their process figured out by now, but nothing ever seems to change. I still have a grant showing as “scheduled” with a disbursement date of 5/22/26, and the only explanation I’ve been given is that the aid was split up and that there’s nothing they can do to speed up the process.

What’s frustrating is how quickly they place registration holds when students owe money, but when the school owes students financial aid funds, we’re expected to just wait indefinitely.

ENC1101 Professor Rec?

I also have the option of Van Tress, just kinda trying to figure out who would be the best option for a full time load.

Extracurriculars:
Volunteer at Kinetix
Shadowing under PT’s
Volunteering at Community Hospice
-
Grades in PreReqs:
Anatomy 1 (Fall A)- A
Anatomy 2 (Fall B)- A
Trigonometry (Summer A)
Biology 1 (Spring)-B

I still have to take Intro to Chem, and Bio 2.

I’m retaking Psychology and another Class I didn’t do well in to improve My GPA.

What do my chances of getting in look like based off my stats? What can I do to improve them? I’d love to hear some feedback from other transfer students going into APK
