influencers who move to Hawaii and use Hawaii for content but never speak up for the communities who need help during or after disasters

areas of Hawaii (including east Maui where she lives) experiencing some of the worst devastation we’ve seen from hurricane Lala and not a single mention of it on any of her pages to her thousands of followers, just fit checks and cat videos and book promo… when even just a quick story share of a mutual aid post or recovery effort could make an impact on people who need so so so much fucking help right now.

Read the room! Literally just share even one post that could help and that’s the absolutely bare minimum! Entire houses were washed away, whole towns cut off and people are dealing with tremendous losses from outages.

I guess since u can’t blame a hurricane on the homeless she has nothing to say about it.

When disasters hit us here in Hawaii, it’s all hands on deck. We need everybody to contribute and take care of each other, especially the people who have access and connections to people off island with MONEY.

Just adds to the layers of grief and rage towards extractive settlers who take and never give back or support the places they occupy. These influencers are all the same. They say they love Hawaii and they come here, they take land, they take resources, and when the call for help goes out, they are silent and self-absorbed just posting selfish content. Just go back to LA already, fuck!

I’ve heard from a few people native to Hawaii that gabi’s boyfriend is part of a crew that takes jobs and security away from crews that are fully local Hawaiians. Can’t help but feel that her buying property there just contributed to this, too. I know she feels so connected to the house and the land but she’s just another tourist overstaying the welcome, taking up the land and calling it home. Idk it just doesn’t sit right. No matter how much she gives back to the land it won’t ever be hers.

Random question but does anyone here remember some places gabi recommended and talked about when she went to lisbon?

Was it on tumblr or youtube vlogs?

Context - I lived there for a while, now im going back to visit and really wanted to remember this place, seemed around lisbon but not in town exactly, also she talked about drag shows and food. nice area around the house location. maybe a palace of sorts?
