Shinji Hits New PR, 6.16 seconds

Shinji (registry name Regalo Nutty But Nice) hit a new FastCAT PR on 8/7, just got the action sequence photos. It's cool to see him get fully airborne in the action sequence. And the bits of torn up turf on his paws.

He did 100 yards in 6.16 seconds = 33.21 mph / 53.45 kph.

Since he's still a yearling, his numbers have improved a lot in the last 3 months.

Help - Crate Training/Separation Anxiety (UK)

Sorry in advance for the long post but we’re at a loss.

For context, my partner works full time Monday to Friday, and I only work weekends. We work around each other because of the issues we’ve been having (our pup not being able to be left alone).

I have a 13 week old Whippet, we had him at 10 weeks old. He’s overall a good puppy, he’s been very easy to train, however he is a proper Velcro dog.

Straight away we noticed he couldn’t be alone for any length of time. He’d follow us room to room, and if we put up barriers like a baby gate, he’d immediately cry and scream until we got back. This was the same for the crate, he’d cry, scream, bite at the bars etc constantly and he wouldn’t stop. He just has to be touching us in order to settle.

With previous dogs, we always allowed them to sleep where they wanted, which usually was our bed. So we allowed the puppy to share our bed with us because he slept really well that way and we’ve never had an issue with dogs in bed. I know this likely hasn’t helped, but we needed sleep and are conscious to not annoy neighbours with the endless crying.

However, now he is starting to be destructive at night time while we sleep and during the day. I don’t care so much about the damage to my house as it’s all replaceable, but what I do care about is his safety, so we are now looking at crate training - I have never had to crate dogs before.

Things we’ve tried, but haven’t worked:
\- Kong/licky mat with peanut butter - unfortunately he seems to have an intolerance to peanut butter as his bowel movements went very runny so we had to stop that.
\- Tried covering the crate both partially and completely.
\- Tried playing the radio etc.
\- Tried making the crate cozy with beds, blankets etc.
\- Praising him for going into the crate.
\- Putting a worn item of clothing in the crate.
\- We’ve tried both a smaller crate, and a larger one.
\- We’ve tried feeding his meals in the crate.
\- He has teething/chewable toys in the crate, including Bamboodles.
\- Tried making sure he’s physically/mentally tired, and all his needs are met.

We’ve tried leaving him in a puppy proofed room with the same things as above, still the screaming persists.

This isn’t a fear of the crate or a fear of confined spaces, this is a fear of being alone or not being able to get to us. He will go into the crate willingly to play and he will sleep in there if he’s really tired and I leave the door open. But freaks out the moment I close the door or leave the room.

Our hope is to crate him at night, and to hopefully be able to crate him during the day if we need to go out. At least until the destructive phase passes.

Any advice will be appreciated…TIA 🖤

Podenco owners any advice?

We are about to adopt a Podenco puppy. We need all the general advice we can get. We have a 3y old Galgo who is in desperate need of a friend.

I know that, like people, dogs have their own personalities, but what are your podencos like? Traits/quirks, things for extra attention...

Thanks in advance

Greyhound dental issues

Has anyone used DailyDogBiotics for tartar buildup and periodontal issues? I've just adopted my third, and at four years old Lacy Blue is already showing some inflammation around her gumline. They cleaned her teeth when she was spayed in Australia in April. (This is August.) My first two greyhounds needed cleaning (with anesthesia) at least once a year. Nothing else works.

Discord Invite?

Hiya! Been active on the FB group and the sighthound discord for some time now. My silken is now 15 weeks and is a dream of a pup. I'm just wanting to get into some more groups as I'm thinking of showing or learning lure as a possible activity in the future. I'm reading and learning and making as many contacts as I can.

All that to say, does anyone have the discord invite to the Silken group?

Improvisation at its finest 🤣

So, despite the pet shirt, my lanky noodle found a way to get at his stitches (he doesn’t tolerate the plastic collar and nearly injured himself trying to get it off). So we tried the inflatable collar (this doesn’t work either - I do think 2x on together would work, but I wasn’t able to purchase a second one at the time). So this was the next best thing 🤣🤣 ladies tights safety pinned to the pet shirt. The vet was very impressed!

Got our whippetxspringer a friend!

Our four year old whippet/springer spaniel has been desperate for a friend, and loves being chased. After searching and searching for the right rescue, we settled on this bundle of joy, an 11 month old greyhound/whippet. They instantly got on like a house on fire!

Neighbourhood cats

We are adopting a saluki cross on Thursday.

She’s 6 and not showing a prey drive but is pretty shutdown at the moment, so could easily change.

Our next door neighbours have 2 cats (who also have a dog which the cats love). The cats both like to enter our house and lounge in our garden (I don’t mind, I love cats).

We live in the UK and our garden is small. What can I do to stop the cats coming in our garden? I would be beyond devastated if something happened to them and want to keep them safe.

Boss is now 17 and 3 months

Bestest boy Boss 🤍🤍Believe it or not, but he’s an italian greyhound w a pedigree lmfao he got neutered too early By his first or second owners so he had a bit of a growth stunt. we think that’s why anyways. he’s such an easy and fun dog. huge personality. everyone’s his friend, even if the other dog is aggressive he swears they’re friends. our former iggy and my uncles rotty (they were more like boyfriends lol) were his absolute best mates though. just a few weeks ago he befriended a beautiful am. bully. my sweet boy.

he can’t go on long walks anymore though. but he runs around the house and garden. he‘s pretty much all deaf and blind but by god, his food drive is just as ‘bad’ as when he was young. last photo is boss and our ‘newest’ iggy. another rescue/rehoming situation. he actively tries to take treats out of Oreos mouth :|

Cleaver and Archie.

Both of these big beautiful boys have now gone. They were big confident dogs that loved life and the beach. Both were rescue Staghounds from Western Australia. Cleaver at the front was ours whilst Archie was from the next suburb over from us.
