Hen or Roo
Hatched febuary with a group that started laying eggs so we don’t know if he/she is laying or not
No crows but one gobble sound?
Was found hanging out in a nesting box the other day where the silkies have started laying

I got a beautiful blue chick, but now that he's a few weeks old he seems to have a splash pattern of light gray and little spots of darker gray. Not sure if that's a normal presentation of blue and he's just young or something else. He's pictured next to his white/black splash siblings (in retrospect it was a bad idea to take a pic with them all in the shade, but he is actually blue lol)
Hey all. I hatched 4 silkies this past April on the 12th. So they are just about 4 months old. Two of my chickens have for sure been crowing, I will point them out in the pictures. But from what I have read the combs are walnut shaped and puffy on silkies... but they all have that? 😅 Am I crazy, or did I really only hatch a flock of cocks?
This lil guy is about 6 weeks, is it still to early to tell?
Hello everyone.
New chicken owner here (silkie)
Examined my chickens in plain daylight and saw bugs running aroung on their skin.
I read these eat dead skin and are less dangerous than red mites… how serious should i be about this, do i try alternative methods (dust baths, diatomaceus earth) or just give ivermectin (pour-on) immediatly?
Worried about medications effects on my chickens/our health.
Thank you.
Me and my family have a few farm animals which me and my brothers get a part of the money from, and I want to start raising my own chickens to make more profit and to learn how to do it on my own with minimal help from my dad. I have decided on silkies because last time we took them to the auction they sold for wayyy more than the cochin bantams and rhode island reds we sold. I am looking for a good place to get them from but Murray Mcmurray, where we usually get them from, is out and Cackle hatchery seems so expensive because of the order fee and minimum chick requirement. Even though the chicks at Murray Mcmurray are 9 instead of 7.99 like Cackle hatchery. I also want splash silkies which Murray Mcmurray doesn't carry. Anyway I put chicks in my cart to see the price and it's 150 for 10 chicks, partly because of the 20 dollar small order fee, but if I got 15 it'd take that 20 dollars away and still I'd be paying almost 180. Anyways is this a lot?? I really want to get them from Cackle but if some place has better prices or a lower minimum I'd really like that. If I get those 10 I can only get two different colors because the minimum for each color is 5, which is dumb if I'm getting 10 chicks because they'll all be in the same box!! This is a bit frustrating since it's my first time doing something like this. Also apologies for any confusing sentences I'm in a rush to write this, but I'd be glad to reword something if you are confused but wanna help lmao. I'm also open to breeding my own splash silkies to keep and continue breeding. I don't mind waiting though I'm sure they'd sell better at an auction as they're flashy and people like flashy haha
First time chicken owner. I have a feeling both are roosters but I really don’t know. Thank you!
So I’ve figured out my other two black silkies are roosters, I’m trying to see if I can figure out if this little one is a girl or boy!
My chick has the coolest face markings and when they blink that black mark goes to their eyelid that goes up and it looks like their eyes are still open. It’s like a fourth pair of eyes looking at you will they keep that?
