Police enforcement

Anyone else think that the Skokie police presence is a bit much? As an Evanston resident, I have to drive through Skokie on the east-west streets quite often. Each time, I can count at least a couple police cars patrolling the road. I've seen this on Dempster and Oakton the most. Doesn't it seem a bit much?

One of my friends got pulled over going 41 in a 35 which seems a bit excessive down an empty part of Dempster. Don't you think that the money going to fund this could be better used in the Skokie community?

Constant car crashes at Golf Rd and Central Park Ave

In the last couple of months there seems to have begun a constant stream of serious car accidents at the intersection of Golf Rd and Central Park Ave. I have noticed at last three since May. Two weeks ago, there was a two-car accident where one car was hit so hard that it *knocked down the streetlight* set 20 feet northeast of the intersection on Central Park Ave. This morning, there are fresh accident debris at the southeast corner of the intersection.

This is a popular intersection for pedestrians in Skokie to reach the Central Ave corridor and for Evanston residents to reach Central Park, and there are many bikers (many children!) who cross Golf north-south as well. It makes me hesitant to cross, knowing that a speeding driver on Golf or an SUV making a right on red might crash into me while waiting for the crosswalk signal. I feel it is a matter of time before a walker or biker are killed.

Like all dangerous streets, the solution is obvious - the speed limit on Golf should be 30 mph, not 40, and there should be pedestrian bump-outs at the light. The difficult part is this road is shared between the Village of Skokie and Evanston. Alas, what is the best way to raise the issue of this increasingly dangerous intersection with city, village, or IDOT?

Looking for recommendations for dog boarding

Hi, I'm new to the area and looking for recommendations for boarding our dog. She is a 9 year old, 80 pound shepherd mix. Does anyone have places they love (or places I should avoid)?

Thanks!

Don't touch people you don't know, even if you're "just trying to squeeze past."

To the older gentleman at the Skokie Farmer's Market this morning who didn't like being told to stop touching my back: DON'T TOUCH PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW.

I wasn't rude for telling you not to touch me, YOU were rude for touching me. You saying "excuse me" doesn't make it acceptable to place your full hand on my lower back and oh so gently push me out of your way. Use your words, not your hands.

Staying in Skokie for a week

My kid has a camp in Skokie - staying at the Holiday Inn with the Bar Louie in it. Very odd.

Anyways - where is the best place to post up to work all day that has some good coffee spots, lunches, etc? Willing to drive 20-30 mins daily to get to a cool spot.

Did the same thing last year and was unsuccessful in finding anything worth going back to in the immediate vicinity.

Commuting Options Pros/Cons?

I’m moving to the Crawford Skokie/Lincolnwood border, and I’m wondering what options people in this area do as Loop commuters.

Currently I live in the city and drive to the Loop because the nearest train is a 30-minute walk with no parking.

If I’m not going to drive on the Kennedy every day, what are the pros and cons of taking the Yellow Line versus the Metra from Edgebrook?
