School district/neighborhood recommendations for queer neurodivergent family?

Hi! We’re looking to move to the Chicago area to be closer to family, and we’re really interested in Skokie, but wanted to narrow down where to look since it’s a big place.

We’re queer and I’m Asian and my husband is white. TBH we’re not so much looking for community on this front, and more just want to feel welcomed and not deal with a bunch of discrimination, so wondering if there are any areas to steer clear of.

More importantly to us, we have two young kids. Our oldest is autistic but might be 2e/gifted. We’re looking for schools that can support our family, and heard good things about the schools here, but again, not sure if there are schools that we should focus on or avoid.

I was hoping especially to hear from any families with ASD/2e kids, and how they like their school/community.

Looking for a coworking buddy @ Skokie library or close

Hi. I sometimes work from the Skokie library and it would be better to meet up with someone for coworking. Connection is important. Going solo is good yet what I learned from being in a coworking group it’s better to have someone(s) to meet up with. If you would like to meet sometime for coworking let me know and we can find a date and time. Also open to other locations like a local cafe.

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Skokie Police officers responded to a glass-break burglar alarm at a business located in the 3500 block of Dempster Street.

Upon arrival, Skokie Police personnel observed multiple suspects loading proceeds into a parked white vehicle. The suspects then entered the vehicle and fled westbound in the 3500 block of Dempster Street. As the vehicle fled, it struck a responding Skokie Police squad car, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to a Skokie Police Sergeant.

The suspects then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. While attempting to take one suspect into custody, a second Skokie Police Sergeant sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Skokie Police personnel subsequently apprehended three suspects, who were taken into custody and transported to the Skokie Police Department for further investigation. Two suspects fled on foot.

Skokie Police personnel were assisted by neighboring law enforcement agencies, a drone, and a K-9 unit in searching for the suspects. After an extensive search of the immediate area, it was determined that the two suspects were no longer in the vicinity.
