For a while now I’ve been looking for ways to turn this expensive boat anchor (Skylight) into something useful without paying a subscription fee. I plugged the Skylight frame directly into my laptop running Claude on VS Code. It deprioritized the Skylight software, loaded Lawnchair launcher and turned the frame into a slideshow photo display that connects to and pulls from my local NAS. It also built a pin pad lock so the slide show can’t be changed or closed unless you have the pin. Then I added a microphone to the one port on the back so I can invoke Claude at any time. It passively listens and recognizes “Hey Claude” similar to Siri but way better. No longer a boat anchor!
