Your Month view just got smarter 📅

Skylight's Month view now opens on the current week, not day 1 of the month. So instead of scrolling past days you've already lived through, you'll always see what's coming up next: up to 6 weeks of your family's schedule at a glance.

It's on by default, but easy to turn off anytime in Settings > Calendar if you'd rather stick with the classic view.

Rolling out now to all Skylight tablets — you'll see it as your device updates throughout this week!

Tasks/chores/rewards confusion

Does anyone have a “explain like I’m 5” video recommendation that shows a detailed breakdown on how these work? My oldest turns 5 in a couple weeks and starting kindergarten so was thinking about implementing the chores and rewards system for basic stuff around the house and homework and such but I am so confused on tasks vs rewards on the app. Is there a separate chores thing or is tasks the same as chores?

Chore/task list that’s recurring

Hi, I’m hoping this is a simple fix but I cannot figure it out. I feel like it should be easier! My 9yo wants to start earning stars to work towards certain goals. For example- earn 50 stars and get a toy/allowance. However most of his chores are recurring, like feed the dog, etc. But when he clicks that he’s done them one day the disappear. Is there a simple setting I’m missing that won’t make them go away?

📣 Update on Skylight Buddy!

  1. Buddy will be restocked on our site on August 3rd. This is US-only for now, though we have heard your requests to take Buddy international.
  2. In response to the community’s feedback, we are excited to announce that Calendar Plus subscribers get Buddy Plus for free. This will always be the case from now on, not just for a limited time. So if you have Calendar Plus and buy a Buddy, you don’t need another subscription to access Timers, Nudges, or Rewards. 🎉

Was super excited for Skylight, and now it’s fizzled out

Was anyone else so excited to get one of these but once they had it, realised it probably didn’t do the things you want.

I’ve now realised that voice commands with Alexa are so beneficial to my family. If we could voice command Skylight to add a task, or add something to calendar it would make a world of difference. My 7 year old would love it too. The Alexa / Skylight feature doesn’t work for us which makes it even worse🤣

Android Request: Disable animations toggle

The app is so slow because there are too many animations in it. Changing menus takes 3 seconds, checking tasks off takes up to 5 seconds. If you have a lot of change it's all adding up and comes very cumbersome.

Just add an option in the local app settings to remove animations and I'm thinking most of this would be resolved.

What happened to the post from earlier?

There was a post earlier today about a plug in (?)/software that claimed to streamline the photos, lists, etc. on the skylight. He wasn’t promoting it or anything…. Now it’s gone?!?

I hope it wasn’t removed. Maybe I’m naive in hoping Slylight doesn’t gatekeep Reddit posts.

Side note: It would be awesome if skylight would allow user apps on the OS.

Skylight removed a post about independent software that expands what its calendar can do

I shared an announcement in r/skylightcalendar for a free, independent utility that lets customers use the Apple apps they already rely on alongside their Skylight Calendar.

It was removed.

The utility does not replace the Skylight Calendar. It gives customers more control over how they use their own photos, reminders, notes, recipes, and chore information, instead of requiring everything to live only inside Skylight’s app.

The post was clearly labeled independent and unofficial. It did not promote unapproved hardware or accessories. I asked which specific rule or guideline it violated and requested a response.

I cannot say why it was removed. But the practical result is that a tool which expands the product’s usefulness, without keeping every feature inside Skylight’s own app, was not allowed to be discussed in Skylight’s subreddit.

Does anyone else’s Skylight seamlessly work with Alexa?

Mine just doesn’t work, it doesn’t pick up what I’m saying, I’ve even tried googling what I want to say and playing it to Alexa on my phone so it’s not just my Yorkshire accent. I just wish it worked, Alexa pretty much runs my house so I’d love to connect them.

Disney pop-up driving me insane

Am I the only one that is constantly getting this Disney pop-up? Anytime I open the app, or navigate back to the app homepage, this Disney pop-up comes up. It should be one of those updates that you’re served once and then never shows up again. It’s making me never want to open the app until this changes.

Anyone else experiencing this or is it just a glitch on my app?

Introducing Skylight Bridge: a Mac app for syncronizing Apple Photos, Reminders, and Notes

Hi, I’m Oliver. I built Skylight Bridge, an independent Mac app for families who use a Skylight Calendar alongside Apple Photos, Apple Reminders, and Apple Notes.

The idea is straightforward: keep the selected things your household already manages in Apple apps visible on the Skylight, without entering them twice.

What Skylight Bridge can map

Apple Photos → Skylight albums

Map a selected album, folder, shared album, Favorites, or individual photos to a Skylight album. You choose exactly what is included, so the app never uploads your whole library.

For individually selected photos, Skylight Bridge can create a concise name on-device with Apple Intelligence after the picker closes. It does not rename, edit, or otherwise change the photo in Apple Photos.

Apple Reminders ↔ Skylight lists

Map the specific household Reminders lists you want on Skylight. A mapping can be one-way or two-way, and linked lists can retain additions made on either side. When a linked list is renamed, the mapping keeps that relationship intact.

Apple Notes ↔ Skylight Recipe Box

Map an Apple Notes recipe folder or selected recipe notes to Skylight’s Recipe Box. Skylight Bridge parses recipes into their title, ingredients, instructions, timing, tags, and source URL.

With the Automatic recipe setting, Apple Intelligence runs on your Mac to choose the best existing Skylight recipe category and add a fitting emoji to titles that need one. Recipe content stays on the Mac for that classification. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, the app falls back gracefully.

For two-way recipe sync, Skylight Bridge can also format the Apple Notes it creates or rewrites with a title heading, section headings, and native ingredient and instruction lists.

Skylight Chore Chart ↔ Apple Reminders

Connect the Skylight Chore Chart with Apple Reminders lists for the household members selected in Skylight. The mapping is two-way: recurring chores remain recurring in Reminders, and completing a chore on either side updates that day’s occurrence on the other.

A few things I care about

  • Every mapping is opt-in. It does not import every photo, list, or note.
  • Original Apple Photos and Apple Notes remain untouched.
  • You can review planned changes in the app’s Activity screen before enabling live sync.
  • It is not an official Skylight app.

I built this because I wanted our Skylight to reflect the systems we already use, instead of becoming another place to update manually. The Mac app is free to download, and I’d love feedback from anyone who gives it a try.

Full Skylight Calendar 2 review after months of daily family use (the good and the frustrating)

We've had the Skylight Calendar 2 on our kitchen wall for several months now. Kindergartener starting school, my wife on rotating night shifts, the kind of schedule overlap where missing something actually matters. So this thing gets used for real every single day.

I finally wrote up a full review covering the stuff I see come up constantly in this sub. The 2.4GHz WiFi headache, Sidekick being genuinely useful one day and completely whiffing the next, whether Plus is actually worth $79 a year, and how Home View feels now that everyone finally has it. I didn't just want to cover the frustrations though, there's real value here and I tried to give that its fair due too.

Would love to know if your experience lines up with mine or if I'm off base on anything:

Repeat Tasks suggestion

Some chores can get stars for doing multiple times, like we have 3 toilets to clean. Each toilet can be redeemed once cleaned. It would be great if we could just add that in the settings that cleaning a toilet can be redeemed 3 times a day instead of 3 separate tasks.

Another option would be that more than 1 person can redeem an up for grabs task if it’s shared. An option to split for the whole amount or even split the stars. My kids get stars for babysitting, sometimes 1 kid may have more responsibilities than another and I let them negotiate whether they split the stars evenly or one gets more.

Rewards savings suggestion

It would be great if people could have an extra large reward to redeem (say 4000 stars) and be able to chip away at it by choosing how many stars to use toward it to save up over time. Once they’ve added enough stars, they can redeem it!

Ex: my kids pay stars to go to summer camp. They know they can save for it all year, but it would be great if they could allocate stars toward redeeming it a little at a time.

Additionally, being able to “deposit” stars into certain accounts to save for would be a good option too.

Grocery list

I’d love to create a grocery list and be able to check items off at the store when I add them to my grocery cart…and not have them disappear from the list; just checked off. That way, we don’t have to retype each item every week. Is that possible?

Grocery List Feature Idea

Is there a way to see what recipe an ingredient is from once you add the recipe to your list? If not that would be a great idea to add somehow! I'm working on a grocery order right now and I'm just trying to figure out which recipe an ingredient is for becuase that might impact what variety/brand I pick.

Issues uploading photos - support wasn’t helpful

It’s been months now that I haven’t been able to upload photos from my phone. When I select photos, it says I need to give permission first (which I’ve already done). I contacted support a month ago, went back and forth with them trying a ton of things, and still no resolution. They did say they’ve received other reports of this happening and they were working to figure it out, but it’s been a month and I’m still unable to upload photos. Anyone else have this issue? Or if so have you been able to fix it? We pay because we love having the digital frame so this is really frustrating.

Screensaver

If you don't want your calendar available to all and sundry, is there a free screensaver (perhaps a single picture)? I don't need chores and all that.
