R171 wind deflector

Hello! I am looking for a decent wind deflector for my R171. I found this on Amazon that looks pretty good. Has anyone used it or does anyone have any other recommendations. I like the look of a solid one versus a mesh one but I don’t know the pros and cons of each.

R171 165hp upgrade to 200hp ?

Hello !

Have some question because I plan to buy an R171 SLK 200K but after trying it, I feel like it lack some power...

My current car is an mk2 Audi TT 225hp FWD, 0-100kmh around 6s I guess... So my question here is, can I do a remap on a 165hp SLK up to 190/200 without any other change and will it actually change the acceleration of the car ?

My focus here is mainly the 0-100. Don't really care about high end speeds.

Though, I also feel like the SLK doesn't need much more power go give cool sensations because it's an RWD, but still, 165hp really feels underpowered.

I also know there's the V6, but those models are more expansive, to buy AND to maintain so that's why I want to stick with a 4cyl kompressor.

Thanks !

Recommend an Android Auto Head unit

Just bought an SLK280 (2009) the previous owner installed a cheap Android Auto unit from Alibaba. Can't figure it out.

Looking for a Kenwood/JVC/Pioneer recommendation....to complicate things the car has Harmon Kardon which apparently adds expense to the instal, something to do with fibre optic connections?

Preparing a 20-Year-Old SLK for a 1,200-Mile Le Mans Trip

Getting the SLK ready for Le Mans this year and thought some folk on here might appreciate the level of preventative maintenance that goes into trusting a 20-year-old R171 for a proper European road trip.

The car is my 2006 SLK200 Kompressor manual. Just over 114k miles now. Driving from Scotland to Folkestone, Eurotunnel to Calais, then down to Le Mans for the 24 Hour race and back again. Roughly 1,200+ miles all in once you factor in local running around and inevitable diversions.

Rather than just “send it and hope”, I decided to properly sort the car beforehand.

Recent work includes:
- Front suspension refresh
- Front springs
- Top mounts
- Track rods and ends
- Drop links
- Camber arm
- Full geometry alignment
- Aux belt and tensioners
- Brake fluid flush
- Oil and filters
- Scuttle drains cleared

Rear suspension and rear brakes are booked in before departure too because the car will be fully loaded with two adults plus luggage.

Honestly, the transformation has been massive. Steering now self-centres properly, feels lighter but more precise, and the whole car feels tighter without losing that slightly old-school Mercedes suppleness. It genuinely feels like the car I suspect Stuttgart intended before twenty years of wear crept in gradually enough that I stopped noticing.

People talk about these cars as cheap roadsters now, but properly sorted they’re still incredibly capable long-distance GT cars. Compact, comfortable, good visibility, decent luggage space, and the M271 just sits happily at motorway speeds all day.

Now the main concern is simply whether the roof mechanism decides to express itself artistically somewhere outside Rouen.

A month of glorious ownership

Couldn’t be happier with this purchase, such a lovely car to use. She eats up those country roads.

20th Anniversary

Grandma’s SLK just reached twenty years. Ordered new and one owner since. Love the spec, unfortunately 200 with 5 speed auto, though this car is a pleasure to drive anyways. This basically was my first car five years ago and now I take for drives to spin at least some miles on it.
Car would need some love, has almost no corrosion, rear subframe recently replaced under warranty, so hope this car will continue for long years.
PS: it would deserve a better photos, but I did this post while waiting for a snack😀

R170 SLK320 rear spoiler.

Any recommendations for a rear spoiler for my SLK not a lip but a nice little wing. Even from other manufacturers would be nice.

Radiator Replacement 55 AMG (r171)

Hi. I have a 2006 r171 55 AMG. My radiator is toast. I got the old one out but the new one from Autozone won’t fit in by about 3mm width.

Has anyone replaced one?

Did you have to put it in from the bottom?

I don’t have a lift but am debating if I need to have it towed to a mechanic just to slide the new one in or if I just need to force it through the top. Thanks in advance.
