Yeah, I know, stop and smell the roses and all that, but seen as any% tas tie (seems to be) happening this year (heck even this month), I have to wonder a little, you know. Obviously, it's nowhere near being practically feasible yet, but I'm curious if we even have, like, the right humanly viable frame rule stats on every level. Basically, is the current com sob the same as tas, or not?

As a casual, I mostly hear about Mario Bros 1 and Mario 64. What game is overall the most prestigious amd celebrated on speedrunning?

I build a small iPhone app that recreates the cognitive tests airlines use to screen cadet pilots, and the thing that fails most candidates is not the difficulty, it is the clock. The math is easy arithmetic, but every question has seconds on it, and one miss tends to snowball into three because people tilt.

Speedrunners are the only community I can think of that deliberately trains executing under a live timer for hours, with a reset always one mistake away. Managing the choke on a PB pace final split is basically part of the craft, and nobody else practices that on purpose.

So genuine question: does it carry over? Are you noticeably calmer than the people around you in exams, job interviews, driving tests, anything with a clock and one shot? Or does the composure stay attached to the game you grind and vanish everywhere else?

Edit: Niftski made it to 8-4 SEVEN times on record pace, including in back to back attempts.

What are some examples of games where the speedrun is dead, meaning the game is optimized to the point where there is physically no further time to save like Dragster or SMB 1 will be soon or games where further optimization is unlikely because it requires impossible RNG that no sane person will go for like much of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.

I know Super Punch Out seems to be mostly optimized because most of the fights are scripted and it’s been years since anyone has found new strats. What are some others?
