Still Image Examples

Came across Spektrafilm just a few days ago after researching ways to digitally replicate the look of an RA-4 print. Used the standalone OFX to process some images from a recent shoot and I am completely blown away by the results.

Spekrafilm DaVinci RCM Issues

Hi, I’m a colorist who’s been experimenting with Spekrafilm. It’s an incredible plugin that can give amazing results, but specifically with display out as SDR.

Maybe I’m just confused, but I’m not sure if the current implementation of Output Role RCM/ACES (Beta) is working properly. It seems the node when set to this output, does not want to be pushed past 70 nits brightness (You can see settings and the waveform in the screenshot), unless there’s a node afterward. This doesn’t feel right as I thought it makes Spektrafilm work with RCM which handles the final display output, so it could be left as the final output without additional nodes, CST’s etc to correct any washed out image. I’m working with Sony FX6 Footage shot in SLog3/S-Gamut3.cine, working in a color-managed workflow (Color Processing: HDR DaVinci Wide Gamut Intermediate, Output Color Science: Rec.709(Scene)). If anyone has additional insights or if there needs to be some sort of forward or inverse OOTF that’d be helpful. The image is very washed out in its current OFX implementation.

I’ve had luck using Canon R5C Canon RAW Footage in Canon Log 3, then setting Input Color Space as either DaVinci Intermediate WideGamut or Canon Log3 CinemaGamut D55 in Spektrafilm. Just want to get this plugin to work with my normal RCM/Slog3 workflow without using doing manual management with CST’s as in’s and out’s on every shot.

*UPDATE: When I a CST after Spektrafilm with Output color Space set to Rec.709, and Tone Mapping Set to DaVinci with 100 nits max input, it looks corrected and no longer washed out. I’m unsure if this is the intended use of the current RCM/ACES (Beta) Output role, but it seems to fix my issue. I do also have “Enable OpenFX Color Management enabled” under color management for the project. Any clarifications would be great. I’ve included a screenshot with a screen-wipe as a reply below to illustrate.

Question about using it in other projects

Hi there! I’m currently building my own photography workflow app. As I am posting here, it’s because it is build around spektrafilm. At some point I’m thinking about using it as a developper plugin but I wonder. Can we do that? Let’s say I keep my thing open source and available on GitHub.. can spektrafilm codebase be in my project? Taking into account all the mention needed in the readme.

In short, let’s assume I do this properly, is it even possible?
