Logging in to use Old Reddit

Hi there, u/boat-botany here working on Community Safety.

A few weeks ago we shared some of the work we’re doing to tighten how automated systems access Reddit while preserving the tools that help moderators and communities thrive. As a continuation of that work, we’ll be rolling out changes to how Old Reddit can be accessed.

Old Reddit’s logged-out experience is a significant source of abusive scraping and automated traffic on the platform. It’s also an important interface for many long-time mods and redditors. To strike the right balance between preserving your access to Old Reddit while preventing abusive scraping and automated traffic, over the next month we will start requiring everyone to log in. All logged-in users will continue to have access to Old Reddit, and this change will not impact logged-out browsing on reddit.com.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Reddit has just blocked *the entire website* unless you either log out or verify your age

(video was taken by my brother who's account was blocked)

For context, about an hour ago they tried to access a reddit post from r / skamteboard or something like that, a subreddit that had no nsfw whatsoever, but this happened. I've tried going to the home page (by the url), tried using old.reddit.com, it redirects to this exact page. So theyve blocked off the entire access unless

  1. You ~~verify~~ send them your information of who you are, where you are and other stuff (in case you forgot https://vmfunc.re/blog/persona)
  2. You use the website without logging in
I am *yet* still able to view the website normally both the nsfw posts and the general content but id say its a matter of time when theyll roll it out to everyone's account
    ### Also for the technical details

Country was set to Poland (european union), which is the place the account was being used
The option to view nsfw was already set to be active
Yet this happened
I am posting this from my own account (ive got the video from my brothers whose account was blocked) and technically ive done everything the same but I used the app on ios when this change rolled out so i was able to use the function from apple to "Share the app range" based off the age set in my apple account. And apple doesnt require age verification *yet*
This might be the reason because they say that he hadn't recieved a notification like this

so the concept of *anonymous* internet comes to an end
And probably the concept of free speech on it
Yippee! Wohoo! Yeah!

Obnoxious "Get the app" popup shows up when I force desktop browser, except now it tells you to log in because it thinks you're on a computer. Also, "real takes" my ass

There is zero reason to be adding a "go to comment" button, they are just cluttering the site with buttons for no reason, I think the devs are just trying to fit some dumb quota or something

the default color of buttons and toggles on shreddit has been changed from blue to black (or to white in dark mode). i'm so tired of the UI design trend of removing color from everything for no reason.

i'm unsure if this is a full change for everyone or just an experiment. let me know how it appears for you currently

Reddit’s redesign coaxing ad clicks

Sick of this crap forcing me into tapping ads I’ve never once tapped in years past.

Once? Sure. Twice? Okay, let me adjust. Three? No, screw you.

They know what they did.

Utterly infuriating inflating their numbers for future advertisers. I’m just trying to scroll up from the comments!

It seems Reddit removed APIKey access so 3rd party Reddit apps no longer work

Opened Infinity for Reddit just a bit ago and none of my subs were loading and I couldn't load anything. Tried checking the Infinity subreddit and other users have posted their problems as well, and it seems that they removed the ability to make apps. I went back to the Apps page in Preferences and when trying to create an app, it says this:

"In order to create an application or use our API you can read our full policies here: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/42728983564564-Responsible-Builder-Policy"

So it seems that Reddit 3rd party apps are dead?

The removal of r/all on Reddit mobile has turned "The Front Page Of the Internet" into "Niche Posts from Four Subreddits I happened to Click when the Algorithm was Learning What I Liked."

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but this is maddening and I could not find a better Subreddit. I searched, but maybe that's by design.

I can't take Mobile anymore. My entire feed is nothing but low or no-upvote posts from r/crappymusic, r/schizodrift, r/Weird, and aliens stuff. Those subreddits are fine, but I've honestly grown to resent them because it's ALL I SEE.

There's no way users are satisfied with this and yet I don't see nearly enough pushback given the complete loss of an enjoyable browsing experience.

These days I only open Reddit out of habit, and I close it a few minutes later.

Opened Reddit in desktop Chrome trying to download a video (I usually use Firefox). Fuck this, I'll just use RapidSave.
