Arctic Shift links are now unable to be posted in Chats

Arctic Shift links are now unable to be posted in Chats

Kind of sucks, though now I‘m curious if it’s possible for the Arctic Shift creator to bypass this by having the site be on a slightly different URL, thus allowing us to link like normal. Reddit would likely send their AEO hit squad to wipe it again, however.

The subreddit name is no longer at the top for me

Yet another experiment... There's one more change I've noticed in the comments

u/Mandelbrot4207 — 1 day ago

Reddit wants me to reset my password for literally no reason.

Then, when I went to my email to reset the password to my Reddit account, Google decided that my password was not enough and that I needed to enter my phone number and receive a text message, as well.

I know that I multi-boot my computer with multiple Linux distros and sometimes Windows, and I sometimes use a virtual machine, and I sometimes use browser hardening about:config settings and privacy extensions and sometimes not, and I sometimes use Helium and sometimes Firefox, and I sometimes connect from a public WiFi network, and sometimes not.

However, this is absurd. If I have the password, then that should be enough. It is a Reddit account, not a bank account.

Just stumbled upon a search bar experiment

The search bar no longer has a orange border and the search page looks different

the old.reddit "start chat" removal experiment is unfortunately back

they introduced this experiment a couple months ago, but it reverted, making me think it was completely over. i guess not...

this variant of the experiment removes the "start chat" and "message" buttons from profile hover cards and from user profile pages, but retains the chat icon in the top bar. there's another variant that also removes the icon from the top bar (which is even worse).

very annoying. so tired of them fucking with old.reddit.

Reddit asks me to verify my age just to view my homepage (BG)

I'm posting this with an United States VPN

The Admins’ own r/modnews post got removed by Reddit, possibly by the same Anti-Evil Operations wave that was removing comments with Arctic Shift links.

The removed post in question was the announcement of needing to login to use Old Reddit (funnily enough I’m still not affected by that)

Why there's a difference between my (public) follower count and actual?

Yes, I've counted the users who follow me one by one. I later noticed that at least one was banned and at least one more was deleted (neither shows up on my list of followers)

I’m sure that fans of The Pussycat Dolls would love to hear about a version of a scrapped song from a Disney movie that they didn’t perform or release…

Who's idea was it to replace the most used button with hidden button, forcing everyone to use this app to change years of muscle memory

What the absolute fuck, why would a button that's rarely used go in the place of one that's used the most, I have to feel like I have to be careful to not accidently press that spot like I have been my whole life

Wouldn't it make more sense to put the save button there, or on the left of it???

If I don't want to see a post I usually just don't follow that subreddit in the first place, WHY??

THIS BUTTON DOESNT EVEN EXIST FOR POPULAR TAB, WHY DOES IT EXIST FOR MY FRONTPAGE???? THE SAME 3 DOT BUTTON EXISTS IN DIFFERENT PLACES FOR TWO FEEDS, WHY??

Beautiful, right? Now you can enjoy it too. Introducing the first release of the new.reddit.com recovery project! Tutorial on how to run it is given below

To use

#1: Install Tampermonkey

#2: Install userscript

The userscript provides the privileged browser functions required by the client, including access to Reddit's APIs.

#3: Download script and HTML

#4: Install Python and requests

  • Linux: Most distros have it installed. Open a terminal and type python3 --help, then press Enter to check if it is installed.
  • Windows: Download Python from https://www.python.org/downloads/
    • During installation, make sure "Add python.exe to PATH" is enabled.
    • Open Command Prompt and run python --help to verify successful install
  • macOS: Install Python 3 from https://www.python.org/downloads/ if it is not already installed. Then open Terminal and run python3 --help to verify install

Installing requests:

  • Linux/MacOS: python3 -m pip install requests or sudo pacman -S python-requests if arch-based
  • Windows: python -m pip install requests

#5: Start the local web server

Open a terminal or command prompt in the directory where you extracted release.zip.

For Linux and macOS, run:

python3 serve.py

On Windows, run:

python serve.py

You should see something similar to:

=> new.reddit.com Server Active
  URL: http://localhost:1264
  Serving from: /home/littux/Projects/js/reddit/new-reddit-com

Keep this terminal open while using the client.

#6: Open the site

Open your browser and go to:

<http://localhost:1264/>

The client should initialize automatically.

You should see messages in the browser console indicating that the userscript has loaded and that the client is initializing.

Troubleshooting

The page is blank

Make sure:

  • Tampermonkey is installed and enabled.
  • The userscript is installed and enabled.
  • The Python server is still running.
  • You opened http://localhost:1264/ rather than opening index.html directly.
  • Open the browser's developer console (F12) and check for errors.

"Connection refused" or the page doesn't load

The python script is probably not running. Try http://127.0.0.1:1264/ as well.

Notes

  • You need to be logged into your Reddit account in the browser for authenticated functionality to work.
  • The client communicates with Reddit using your existing Reddit authentication through the installed userscript; you do not need to create an API application.

Report errors to <https://github.com/Littux-Dustux/new-reddit-com/issues>, r/Littux, or this subreddit (can't say if it's allowed; not a mod). Make sure to search for the error first.

If it's a security issue, send it via Chat instead

I really hate this profile page design.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Looks like the one in the photo wanted to say hi for the 2nd time. The original in the comments looked so much better imo. Please return the original.
