Is Foundry the only good option for a DM? Asking as a player.

I've joined games on Foundry and Roll20. While r20 has drawbacks, it's a lot friendlier to run on my PC. I've set up my Foundry on the lowest graphics settings, disabled animations like Dice so Nice, and cut my FPS and I still get lag. This upsets me because I seem to be the only one this happens to so my DM has to be extra worried for me, to the point that I feel like it's better I leave. My problem is most DMs on this platforms use Foundry, and I get that it does provide a more "professional" experience. Is there any hope for me to find a table that doesn't use Foundry? I heard about Owlbear being friendlier but they're as few as Roll20 listings. Majority of games I find interesting use Foundry. Am i the only player with this issue?

A question for those of you experienced with this platform.

How does everything with the money work? I haven't the faintest clue where to find such info and me and a friend are looking to start a thing on here.

A few specific questions I have include what intermediaries there are, what cuts they take of the profit, and if there is anything else important to look out for money wise?

Also, on average how many of you deal with players that are… problematic?

edit: since this is apparently important in relation to the last question, me and my friend both run modified DnD 5.5e

further edit: I think the answers Ive gotten just about answer everything I need answered, thanks yall!

Looking to run a campaign-style Mothership game with Wages of Sin!

I have run a lot of one-shots of Mothership so far - both online, in person, and at GenCon last year (if you were playing in the Bloodfields of Blackstar Station event, maybe you were at my table?). This is definitely my favorite system for one-shots, but I've never gotten around to running a longer term campaign for it. After ordering Wages of Sin the other day and reading through the PDF, I decided that has to change. So I am starting a weekly campaign over on startplaying, Wednesday nights (EU), focusing on bounty hunting, smuggling, and the like. While the game will feature jobs from Wages of Sin, I also plan on incorporating other classic Mothership scenarios and locations to build a living and intertwined galaxy for you, with Prospero's Dream from A Pound of Flesh serving as our campaign hub.

[5e][Online][Paid][Wed 11PM GMT+1][$15/Seat][One-Shot 3hr] "This is why we don't rob magic shops in broad daylight" - a heist that goes loud, a stolen lantern, and half the Watch on your tail. 2 needed to start.

Hey all, running a heist one-shot and need 2 players to fill the table (3 tables actually going up, more on that below).

The pitch: you've been hired to walk into Vellithra's Curios, a warded magic shop sitting in the busiest district of Baldur's Gate, and walk out with a lantern that isn't yours. In broad daylight. No cover of night, no empty streets, just you, a crowd of witnesses, and a ward you'll have to talk, swap, or pick your way past.

However you get in is on you. Sweet talk the owner. Palm a decoy while you're mid-conversation. Take the ward apart with your own hands if you think you can. But the second an alarm goes off, the job becomes a chase: rooftops, market alleys packed with stalls you can use for cover or knock into your pursuers, a construction site with scaffolding you could bring down behind you. Every environment is a tool if you can think fast enough to use it.

This is roleplay-heavy and action-packed in equal measure. I'm not steering you toward "the" solution, if you can describe it and it's plausible, we'll find out together whether it works. Combat, when it happens, is quick and mean, not a slog.

Character creation: none needed. Four pregen level 5 characters, play them however you like. Sheets and a quick rundown sent before session, we'll cover anything else in the first ten minutes.

Logistics: 3 hours, D&D Beyond + Discord, mic required. Comfort/tone check at the start, open door policy throughout, Lines & Veils and X/N/O cards on the table. One content warning: snakes.

Three tables currently open, pick whichever fits your week:

  • Wed Aug 5, 11PM GMT+1
  • Fri Aug 7, 6PM GMT+1
  • Sat Aug 8, 4PM GMT+1

$15/session, only charged once a session actually starts. Each table needs 2 players to lock in.

If a fast, cinematic heist-gone-loud sounds like your kind of Wednesday (or Friday, or Saturday) night, join here:

THE END OF HEROES - try out new character classes in the D&D 5e 2014 homebrew campaign! This FANTASY HORROR adventure is a character focused romp with plenty of room to customize your characters exactly as you want! (PAID - $20) - TUESDAYS

The city of Iriesall is besieged by war, rebellion and now one of its most revered heroes has seemingly fallen to darkness. Who will fill the void?

Quinton Veilar, retired member of Emberwatch, Slayer of Ancient Dragons, spends his old age telling stories in a tavern. After he and his companions have saved the City of Iriesall, it seems that the people are determined to destroy it themselves. Between the war with the underdark, a terrorist insurgency in the undercity, and the oppressive reign of Queen Beirona and the Orders of Sybril, there is little peace to be had. But there was peace in drink, and sharing stories with friends at the tavern.

Through his adventures, Quinton has made enemies, acquired dangerous magical artifacts, and kept many secrets... all of which are about to unravel.

Join the adventure, as a former pupil of this retired hero as he trusts you to protect all he holds dear. Travel to stunning locals, meet legends of old, and maybe.. just maybe.. save the world along the way.

You will create a level 3 character, 1 common magical item, 1 uncommon magical item who was a former apprentie of Quinton Veilar or a similar relation.

Players will have all of the 2014 wizard's of the coast official content to choose from. I am familiar with quite a bit of 3rd party material and using those options can be discussed during our session zero or on our discord server.

There are a number of my personal homebrew classes that will be available as well, such as
