4real is the most steve lacy sounding steve lacy song

I don't know the actual musical terms for it, but there's something about the way steve plays the guitar and the bass and the drums that make it so distinct. It's so nice hearing a song and going 'this sounds like steve lacy' and then he's either a feature or producer on the song. Ex: Pony Fly by Matt Martians, Pride by Kendrick Lamar.

I feel like if you took whatever he did that made those songs identifiable, and put it into one song it would be 4real. The lofis as a whole is a very steve sounding album.

Did ‘Like Me’ get longer?

I don’t remember there being the extra lyrics, and jingles at the end of the song, I don’t know how I might’ve missed it if I did, but did the song get extended or something?

The influence of So Blue by Prince on Steve

I'm aware Steve already gets compared to Prince a lot, but I hear the influence on So Blue more than anywhere else. From the guitar playing and layering, to the vocal style and falsetto (that borderline feels like the blueprint for songs like Amber and Give You the World), to the DIY and personal feeling, to the honest and sensual lyrics, the formula is all there.

I think if Steve ever did a cover of this song it would be incredibly fitting.

Anyways, kind of a nothingburger post, but I just thought it would be fun to share this comparison and maybe put some people onto this song, because it really is a must listen if you're a fan of either artist and haven't heard it yet.
