I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I felt I wanted to discuss this a little to see if anyone agrees with me.
I love everything the man has done up until after 2016 when he released 4½, including that record.
Everything after that doesn't hold the same quality. I rarely put on all the other records like To The Bone, Future Bites, Harmony Codex och the Overview. Closure/Continuation is also an album that I rarely feel inclined to listen to. Now, dont get me wrong. There are still songs on the above albums that I really like, in isolation, but not a a whole release.
What happened after 2016? I guess you could simply say he stopped making music that appeals as much to me personally as all the other releases. But I can't help but think he kind of lost it a bit after that point.
Does anyone share the same opinion?
I have been doing some detective work about the new album, and I was rewatching the Warren Huart video, where Steven plays a bit of bass, which he says is “part of a new song”.
So, around the 1h15 mark, Steven is showing the work he does with plugins and the camera man turns to the computer screen. There you can see the Logic multitrack view and if you zoom a lot, you can see the project is called… >!“Requiem for a Village”!<. I’ll leave the link at the bottom.
Given the “village” theme everyone at the playback mentioned, this led me to two hypotesis: either it is the name of a track or the name of the album (if he worked on it as a continuum, which I think may not be the case).
Also, a nice detail is that he unpacked his turquoise baritone PRS (featured mainly in ‘The Incident’) in the video. That can be a sign that he was messing with heavier sounds at the time.
Anyway, I digress. I’m just too excited for this new record!
More treats - Catalogue/Preserve/Amass (Live In Europe, October 2011) is reissued as new 2026 Headphone Dust Atmos Edition, plus Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time.
Will be getting both Catalogue / Preserve / Amass – Headphone Dust.
Probably not exactly note for note but I’m pretty happy with it :)
I was just browsing the Polygon site and spotted this. Looks like SW will be in attendance.
Just wanted to share the first single from our album here. Adam Holzman plays an absolutely amazing keyboard solo on it!
