EF education first Tokyo

Hello!
I’ve applied to a language program through EF (education first) to Tokyo. Its duration is 16 weeks long, though I have been a little worried.

Included in the course was housing aka living with a Japanese family supposedly with a roommate that will be in the same program as me. I am worried because you don’t know who you’re living with until 1-2 weeks before you actually start the program. And switching to live on campus would cost me an additional 40000SEK which is the equivalent to $3800 and I don’t know how I’d pay that tbh.

Despite knowing that I have the possibility to switch the family I live with, I’m still worried about the fact that I’ll be living with strangers for 16 weeks. I’ve heard from others that they don’t really make sure you get dropped to a decent host family, a mutual told me “they could be sex traffickers and they wouldn’t do much about it”

Mind you this is my first time traveling alone, so i might be overthinking but i really would appreciate the perspectives and maybe others experience traveling with EF

Thanks!

MEXT Undergraduate 2027 (India) — Commerce Student Seeking Advice on Eligibility and Preparation

Hi everyone,

I’m from India (Chhattisgarh) and I recently completed Class 12 in the Commerce stream. I’m interested in applying for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship 2027 through the embassy route.

I have already gone through the MEXT wiki, subreddit resources, and some embassy information. After doing my research, I still have a few specific questions and would really appreciate advice from applicants or scholars.

My background:

• Class 12 graduate

• Commerce stream

• Average marks in Class 11 and 12

• Beginner in MEXT preparation

• Highly motivated and ready to work seriously for this goal

My questions:

  1. Can a Commerce student apply for MEXT Undergraduate through the embassy route, or is it mainly for science students?

  2. Which written exam subjects should I prepare for as a Commerce student?

(English / Japanese / Mathematics?)

  1. How important are Class 11 and 12 marks during selection?

Can someone with average marks still realistically have a chance?

  1. For those who cleared the written exam/interview, what preparation strategy helped you the most?

I understand MEXT is highly competitive, especially in India, so I want to prepare in the smartest and most effective way possible.

Any advice or experience from previous applicants would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Looking for fully funded(or cheap)high school scholarships to Japan – does anyone know any?

I'm currently a high school student on a fully funded international scholarship, but Ive realized it not the right fit for me. I don't really feel like I belong, so Im hoping to find a different opportunity.

My goal is to study senior high school in Japan on a fully funded scholarship(or a cheap one). Ive been to Japan before through an exchange program and a summer program, and those experiences made me realize thats where Id really like to continue my studies.

Does anyone know of any scholarships or organizations that sponsor international students for Japanese high schools? Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Anyone Here Studying at NUCB? Need Advice for 2027 Application

Hello everyone,

I'm an international student planning to apply to NUCB University for the 2027 intake and move to Japan in 2027.

I'd love to hear from current students, alumni, or anyone who has gone through the application process.

A few things I'm curious about:

- Any tips for the application process?

- Are there any documents or requirements that applicants often overlook?

- How competitive is admission for international students?

- What's the actual student experience like at NUCB?

- What are the monthly living expenses you personally spend?

- How easy is it to balance studies with a part-time job?

- Is there anything you wish you had known before applying or moving to Japan?

If anyone has application resources, checklists, or examples that helped them, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Uni advice

Hi I'm an Australian high schooler looking to go to university in Japan without the study Abroad program. I want to live in Japan while attending a school where I can get a degree in some kind of technology course while also taking a Japanese language course. I don't speak Japanese very fluently so it would be best to recommend a uni with some English programs for a beginner lol

Looking for an English-taught Mechanical Engineering bachelor's in Japan (2028 applicant)

Hi everyone!

I'm a high school student from India planning to apply for undergraduate admission in 2028.

My profile:

ICSE Class 10: 94%

Target CBSE Class 12: 90%+

Target SAT: 1500+

I'll also take IELTS.

I'm learning Japanese for daily life, but I'd like to complete my degree in English.

I'm looking for a university that has:

A full Mechanical Engineering bachelor's taught in English

Good reputation

Good student life

Local Japanese students (I don't want to be in an international only bubble)

Moderate academic workload

In Tokyo or within 30-45 minutes away from Tokyo

Right now, Waseda University is my top choice, but I'm concerned about the timetable. I saw that classes can run until 8:35 PM, and I'm wondering how common that actually is.

For current Waseda (or other engineering) students:

How often do you have classes after 6 PM?

How many hours per week do you spend on homework and studying outside class?

Do you still have time for clubs, the gym, friends, and exploring Tokyo?

Is it easy to make Japanese friends in the English-based program?

Are there any other universities you'd recommend that match what I'm looking for?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences. Thanks!
