How much rust is acceptable?

We plan on adding a ball hitch to tow a boat (dry weight roughly 3000lbs). It’s a 1997 gmc suburban low mileage, essentially elderly owned driven only once a year but maintained regularly. Looking at the rust on the hitch, would this be something we need to replace before towing a boat?

Could I copy & cut a blank key at Walmart?

I know you can do house keys etc, I was wondering if anyone knew about vehicle keys. 2002 suburban. Have a blank that needs cut.

2013 Suburban won't go into park

When we got home last night, the 2013 Suburban wouldn't go into park. It's in Neutral with the parking brake right now. Thankfully, it's in the driveway.

Tomorrow, when there is daylight, I will chock the wheels and fully check the shift linkage cable, but from my flashlight observation, I didn't see anything hanging.

If anyone has any advice for what else to check, it would greatly be appreciated. It seems like the cable/grommet is the most comment failure point.

Upgrades/Updates for my 1997 suburban?

I was able to pick up this very well kept 1997 suburban low mileage garage kept from a neighbor. Yes one owner…
I put in a new radio and speakers and gave it a good buff, wax and detail. Could you all give me some feedback and ideas of things I could use to bring my burb into 2026?? Thanks…

Rate my setup: SUV cargo edition

Needed a solid solution to keep supplies organized while giving a pair of party speakers a dedicated home without taking over the entire cargo area.

As a non-professional carpenter—and a girl who wielded a circular saw for the very first time on this build (survived with all ten fingers intact!)—please go easy on me in the comments!

Built this dual-level shelf out of a 3/4" MDF panel, carpeted it with an unbound 6' x 8' indoor/outdoor area rug, and anchored it down tight to the factory tie-down points. For the rigging, I used 4-point quick links and vinyl-coated stainless steel cable wire that was actually leftover from building guy lines for my 12ft skeleton, Boney Frightmare. If it can keep a giant skeleton standing, it can handle a cargo shelf.

Top shelf keeps the speakers secured flat facing forward into the cab, while the bottom section keeps all the cargo tucked away cleanly. Turned out rock solid, doesn't rattle at all, and is super quick to unhook whenever I need the floor space back.

How'd I do?

Radio power issue

2005 suburban 2500 6.0/4L80

I bought the suburban a year and a half ago, and the radio functioned fine. Since then, sporadically, but near-permanently now, the radio will turn on when I turn the key to accessory, and will stay on BRIEFLY (30-45 seconds?) when I turn the engine on, then will shut off. Just zero power at the head unit.

Once I cut the engine off and go to accessory, the radio will power back on, and then when I remove the key, it shuts off like normal.

I also randomly get an occasional door chime that stays on when I turn the key on engine on, regardless of the door being open or shut, and sometimes will keep chiming when I turn the key off. No text in the DIC on the dash. Door ajar switch and dash warning is 100% accurate to the door being open and shut.

Radio issues and door chime are not synonymous. They happen separate from the other as far as occurrence.

My theory is either a failing ignition switch that has a short in it telling the radio to kill power, and telling the door chime that it’s still in accessory mode.

Or, the door chime is from the door latch mechanism going bad.

I really just want my radio back. Any theories?
