First year blooms🌻,Question for next year

I had a lot of fun with my first year of gardening! This might be a dumb question, but I have this wall I would like to try to grow a couple of mammoth sunflowers in front of next year. The problem is the wall is on the NE side and the open yard is SW. if I grow the flowers near the wall on highlighted section (second pic) are the open blooms likely to just face the wall vs the yard? Is it worth even trying? I know the obvious answers to plant somewhere else, but I’m kinda determined to create some sort of flower bed in that area next year. Thanks!

Another year, another tragedy. 😭😂

Tried covering the flower heads in a mesh bag to deter the squirrels. At this point, I feel like I’m growing them just for the squirrels.

Sunflower Type Question

I reposted this from r/gardening to get some specific insight from this community

Zone 7A - NJ

This spring, I purchased and started a flat of sunflower seedlings. I’m pretty sure the packets we used were hybrid varieties.

I’m happy to report they are now super tall and thriving! I just had a question and was hoping someone can give me more insight as this is my first time growing them and I’m a bit ignorant of the science behind it.

Since they have bloomed, I have been pruning and deadheading to keep them from toppling over from the weight. We are puzzled because the first main sunflower blooms were all burnt orange with a tinge of yellow, however the stems that have been pruned are regrowing and budding in traditional sunflower yellow, not orange.

Is this due to the hybrid seeds?

Thanks for reading and answering in advance.

P.s. yes I’m stoked about the monarch!

Accidental sunflowers

So my cats love to watch the birds from the window. I threw some bird seed out to bring them more entertainment. Fast forward two months and we now have sunflowers. I was not expecting the sunflower seeds in that bird mix to actually propagate.

Otro girasol variegado

Este es un nuevo ejemplar de girasol variegado, bicolor monoflora que logramos a través de hibridación. Los girasoles variegados son poco comunes y más aún si no son amarillos.

I need to thank someone!

I posted with pics of my sad sunflowers asking for help. I got a response and read it at work quickly, and went back to read it thoroughly after work and it was gone. The advice was to water 3 times a day and put down mulch (all I remember). Just watering 3 times a day really helped and now both remaining plants now have 3 and 4 beautiful blooms with more starting to show blooms! I will share this within my original post, I just wanted to try to reach this person and thank her for great suggestions!!

When to cut sunflowers

How do you know when you can cut the sunflower head for seeds?

u/Jp95060 — 2 days ago

Big one.

Wasn't gonna cut this one for another few days but nature had other plans.
