hello make-up friends,

for the past couple weeks I‘ve been struggling with my Chanel Joues Contraste blush in Rose Initial. In every single review and swatch it looks like a very saturated matte rosy pink, but mine is very light, shimmery and peachy at best (pictures below - the first and last pics are mine and the other two are from tiktok creators, the third one is not even a year old). I think even in the artificial lightning (first pic) you can notice mine is a different tone and also definitely not matte. It seems to me like theirs is much closer to the shade Quintessence?

I have asked at different make-up stores and also at a Chanel corner in my country (Germany) and they comfirmed this shade is usually this light and barely visible.

Do you guys/girls know if this specific shade was reformulated? I heard it was like one year ago, but even the newer swatches look different. I must say it does look saturated and pretty when applied heavily, but it‘s just not the same shade.

From top to bottom, finger swatches, 2–3 swipes on fair/light–cool skin:

1) Phytosurgence in 02 Rosy Daybreak: stiff cream formula, I went heavier at the top of this swatch and sheered it out below

2) Gucci in 01: powder formula, swatch is a little lighter because I swatched it at Sephora and don’t actually own this one yet, but I plan to buy it someday

3) RMS Beauty in Beachwalk Betty: stiff gel-powder formula, has a slight sheen that’s only visible if I go too heavy with it

And just for comparison: 4) Benefit Hoola Wave in Original: a classic bronzer shade

I really like the first three; they look natural and not orange at all on my fair/light–cool skin (finally!). I just got the Phytosurgence a week ago, and their website says they updated their bronzer formula in 2024, so I’m hoping this version doesn’t dry out as older versions have!

- Fenty - Diamond Bomb in How Many Carats?! (gorgeous veil of mini glitter in a translucent base)
- L.A. Girl - Glitterholic Glitter Topper in Holo-glam (the pictures don't do it justice, it packs the most punch out of these shadows. The glitter is AMAZING.)
