Renwa Al-Shaar Appears in Recorded Video and Confirms She Is Fine

After five days of her family's anxiety, and numerous pleas that spread across social media platforms, young woman Renwa Adnan Al-Shaar appeared this morning in a video recording that ended the controversy over her fate, confirming that she is fine.

Renwa explained that her appearance in the video aims to put an end to the narratives and rumors surrounding her disappearance, pointing out that what happened was not a kidnapping or an escape, but the result of personal circumstances and a predicament she faced while heading to Damascus without her family's knowledge after they refused to let her go in order to stop her university registration. She added that she was robbed and lost her phone, money, and documents, which left her in a state of fear and inability to communicate or return.

In her statement, she fully rejected all accusations and rumors that targeted her family or any other party, affirming that her family is "the apple of her eye and on her head," and that she is proud of her family and the environment she belongs to, urging everyone not to direct any harm or blame toward her family after the anxiety and pressure they endured over the past days.

Renwa said that what most prompted her to come forward was the extent of the fear that gripped people over her, and the state of accusations that began to expand against parties with no connection to what happened, adding that what occurred "was not right, neither for her nor for the people who were accused."

She also repeatedly reaffirmed that "the girls of the mountain are protected," and that talk of kidnapping or mistreatment was not true, in a message through which she sought to end the wave of controversy and rumors that accompanied the case since her disappearance last Thursday.

A statement was issued by the Al-Shaar family in Suwayda, in which the family expressed thanks to everyone who sympathized with them and stood by their side in the case of Renwa's disappearance. The statement added: "We want to reassure everyone that our daughter is fine and safe, and she is currently in trustworthy hands."

The family pointed to details of her absence and its causes: "It turned out to be the result of her family's intense fear for her and their concern, which led to her being prevented from completing her university studies, prompting her to seek refuge with one of our relatives in the Jaramana area in the Damascus countryside."

The Al-Shaar family also extended thanks and appreciation to: "the religious authorities and the local community for their efforts and support. And to the National Guard (God's men on earth) for their significant role, and to the Internal Security Forces and Criminal Security for their diligent follow-up, and thanks to the media platforms, journalists, and activists on social media for publicizing the case."

Today, a number Kurdish political parties (including PYD this time) gathered to voice concerns over the “Syrian People’s Assembly elections,” questioning whether the process reflects inclusive political representation.

📌They criticized allocation of only 4 seats out of 210 for Kurdish representation, saying it does not accurately reflect their demographic and political weight.

📌This public statement echoes widespread fears concerning the future of Kurdish people's civil rights and political representation under the Syrian Transitional Government (STG).

📌Abdulilah Arabo, prominent Kurdish politician, told RIC the parties are “not satisfied,” but said they will not boycott the process, stressing continued efforts to secure Kurdish rights. Arabo also noted that representation concerns are not limited to Kurds, mentioning similar issues affecting other communities, including Druze and Alawites.

@presssuwayda: "New Church in the Heart of As-Suwayda ❤"

Translation: "The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in As-Suwayda has inaugurated the Church of "Theotokos (Mother of God) - Queen of All and Saint Charbel of Edessa" within the archdiocesan compound on Qanawat Road, through the efforts of Metropolitan Antonios Saad.

Dr. Lama Abey from As-Suwayda commented on the opening of the new church: "In some countries, churches are persecuted or demolished, but in our diocese, churches are being built. Blessed be upon us the Church of the Virgin Queen of All and Saint Charbel of Edessa."

And according to unofficial estimates and Christian sources, the number of Christians in As-Suwayda exceeds 25,000 people, with roots that run deep into antiquity and authenticity within the mountain, as they belong to four denominations: the largest proportion being Eastern Greek Orthodox, in addition to Western Greek Melkite Catholics, Western Latin Capuchin Catholics, and Protestant Evangelicals.

Unity of Fate and Shared Pain

During the incursion of the interim authority's forces into As-Suwayda in mid-July last year, the Christian residents, like the Druze, were subjected to sectarian killings, displacement, and attacks on their religious Sanctities, with more than 200 Christian families displaced from the northern and western villages occupied by the authority's forces, after their properties were looted and burned.

And according to the pastor of the Shahba church, Father Touma Petros, six churches were burned during the incursion, including churches in Radima al-Liwa, al-Mazraa, Ta'ara, and al-Sura al-Kabira, in the northern and western countryside of As-Suwayda, in addition to more than 30 religious councils specific to the Druze sect, according to a report by the International Investigation Commission.

Father Tony also confirmed in a previous statement to the newspaper "Daraj," that the situation of Christians in As-Suwayda cannot be described as unique, because like others, they were subjected to displacement, lost their livelihoods, and the toil of their lifetimes. "In al-Sura al-Kabira, they entered and burned the homes of Christians and Druze, and burned the church and the council," pointing to the hatred and brutality that accompanied the attack.

And since the July incursion and what followed it of siege, then security tightening that led to the deterioration of living conditions, the churches in As-Suwayda have provided generous donations in various relief, health, and educational fields, without any discrimination, to form a model in humanitarian work and brotherhood.

Media Misinformation and Incitement

As part of the systematic media disinformation campaign broadcast by platforms and figures loyal to the interim authority in Damascus, yesterday Sunday it promoted a fabricated news story about an attack on St. George's Church of the Greek Orthodox in As-Suwayda, before the church officially came out and denied these reports in full detail.

The church affirmed that there is no truth to any reports of an attack or targeting, and urged everyone to exercise caution and refrain from contributing to the spread of rumors or unverified news, due to its "negative impact on stability and civil peace in the region."
