3d printed caster wheel support

After getting 2 bikes stolen in 6 month (including my previous hsd), i decided to store my new HSD in my apartment. But this was super awkward as the HSD with captain chair is a pain to move vertically, especially in my awkward apartment corridor. So I designed and 3d printed blocks that go around 4 points of the bike, bolted together with heat insert mounts and m6 screws, and printed in PA filament. It's working beautifully, i just put it vertically in the street, and then move it like a big trolley in the elevator and into my flat !

Mosquitoes around our clubhouse

This probably sounds weird, but I’m noticing that a ton of mosquitoes love to roam around our clubhouse - it almost seems to draw them in, no matter whether we’re in an area with a bunch of water nearby.

I’m even wondering if there’s some eggs hiding in there somewhere, if there’s some moisture on the bottom, etc

Has anyone else dealt with this? Maybe just need to put one of those bait balls in the bottom?

Squeaky HSD

My Gen 2 HSD P5i that I bought new in May is squeaking when I pedal. I think it's the belt drive. It sounds very much like squeaky rubber. The belt drive is new bike tech for me, so I'm wondering if that's normal. I can't imagine it would do any good to lubricate it, as that might cause the belt to slip on the teeth instead of gripping them.

Bought the full setup in May. Storm Box Gen 2 and Clubhouse Gen 4 dropped this month. Cool cool cool.

Just need to get this out of my system so I can move on.

Three months ago I went all-in on a GSD; S10 Gen 3, Storm Box, Clubhouse, transporter rack, the whole kit. North of $9k once the accessories were done. Zero regrets about the bike itself; it’s replaced an absurd number of car trips and the kids love it as much as I do.

And then, of course, Storm Box Gen 2 and Clubhouse Gen 4 recently dropped. My kids are getting heavier by the week, and right now every ride starts with me deadlifting two of them up and over into their seats. The new clubhouse and storm box design allows side access making it easier for them to climb in themselves. Older dad groaning in lower back pain here haha

I know how this works. There’s always a next version, there’s no good time to buy, and my gear does exactly what it did the day I bought it. Nothing is broken. I’m not asking Tern for anything and I’m not returning anything.

It’s just a little deflating to be three months in and already looking at the “new” version of stuff that’s not only shiny but much more functional.

Sigh

Very good girl on very good bike

First cargo bike for me. HSD Gen 2 popped up on marketplace with the dog carrying accessories. Let’s me take my Sheltie with me wherever in the city. Did a 1 hr ride and visited the park to play fetch, got some coffee, and toured some nice trails. We both loved every minute of it.

For reference my dog is about 30 lbs. The harness tie downs work well. She likes to peek out on both sides when we’re riding. Went slow at first, and tested even above 35kph and she likes the wind in her fur.

Young Electric Bike Rack

Been looking for a hitch rack that will work for my partner’s Tern GSD s00 LX and doesn’t cost a bazillion dollars. Finally settled on this rack from Young Electric and tested it out today, and it works great! About $350 including a detachable ramp and lock. The 200 lb capacity is plenty for his bike and could handle a second too.

GSD P00 Gen 3 Rear / Frame Suspension

Hey Everyone,

About a month ago I got the latest GSD P00 Gen3 with the Enviolo twist

Great bike in several aspects but one thing that hits me hard, whenever I hit a road pump front wheel shock absorption is amazing but the cargo in the bag hits the ground hard and loud.

Is there a possibility to configure suspension or even add a custom solution for suspension in the back section of the bike? I would love to get the cargo section also stabilised, any ideas are welcomed!

Thanks!

Tern GSD in-house parking in a typical Belgian house

Hi everyone!

In case useful to someone, wanted to share my setup with which I have managed to have parking for my Tern GSD (Gen 3 P00) inside my house.

As you can see, not much space before the stairs start as the house has a typical raised ground floor, so had to find a way to plop it there. Given it only fits backwards (Clubhouse width would prevent door from closing/opening) I have made a ramp which enables me to get it up to the top stair backwards and then lower the kickstand and lock it which then keeps the whole bike wedged.

Final small detail is that for the wedge to work I made it so that the ramp of the 1st step detaches so that the angle of the front wheel is steeper as otherwise the angle of the kickstand is insufficient to keep the bike in place.

Hope this helps! All the best!

Gsd seat post

Is the gsd seat post a propitiatory size? I don't really need the telescoping ability and was wondering if there was an off brand post available so I could weld up a single stepped post and keep the original safe at home in case I ever sell.

New Chain

Has anyone managed to change their own chain? Have they had to link two smaller ones together or has anyone managed to find an appropriately sized one?

Alternative cooling bag for WeatherTop Cooler

Although I’m no longer a fan of Tern or the company behind it, I already own the bike, so I want to make the best of it. I’m looking for a cooler bag for the front. I was considering the WeatherTop Cooler, but at €240, it’s pretty expensive imo.

I’m wondering if a generic cooler bag from amazon like a Lifewit https://www.amazon.de/Lifewit-Isoliertasche-Thermotasche-Picknicktasche-Lebensmitteltransport/dp/B071HSRTJN would be good enough if I secured it to the Hauler Rack with a strap.

Has anyone tried something similar? Or is the weathertop cooler simply worth it?

First 300 miles.

I have to say that the first 300 miles has been great. Breakfast runs, playground hopping, ice cream shops,....mundane outings have been made exciting. Thanks to this subreddit for being a great resource.

Foldable pedals?

Hii, anyone has experience with foldable padels? (Or ones that are truly easy to remove?)

We take our Tern GSD S00 Gen2 with us on our campervan, plus a regular ebike. The pedals always make it a bit of a hassle to put the bikes on the rack (it works, but takes a bit of time and is annoying 😅).

We have a rack on the car that folds down so we can open the trunk, but when we have the tern + regular ebike, we have to place the pedals of the tern is such a way that we can just about 1 or 2cm not open the trunk fully. Without the second ebike this is no problem.

Think foldable pedals would solve it all 🤣

Can someone explain why e-shifting isn't a terrible idea?

I'm excited about the new HSDs with 90nm torque, but wireless shifting just seems like an opportunity for something else to get buggy/break.
I wish they'd done one model with the increased torque and a wired shifter (and, dream scenario, a belt drive)

Tern GSD crash test

Hi everyone!

New Tern GSD rider here. My search for a Tern GSD crash test came up empty. Tern have lots of safety recommendations but I don’t find anything in terms of what happens in case you do tip over while riding.

Anyone have any links to crash tests of Tern GSD with kids on the back in a Clubhouse or anything similar?

If not, does anyone have maybe any personal stories they’d be willing to share?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the gruesome subject… I’m sure the little ones are gonna be just fine with all us Tern riders… probably… mostly… :)

Ortlieb Back Roller Classic - which rail does it clip to?

On an HSD -

Simple question - does the pannier clip to the rail underneath the clubhouse seat (unlikely I would imagine due to the Clubhouse surround getting in the way)
… or the lower rail below the top one?

I presume these bags are suitable if using the clubhouse on the lower rail?

Is that second rail 16mm?

I’ve had a look for photos online to confirm but haven’t found confirmation.

With the sidekick wheel guards - are there any issues with the bags bouncing around without being able to use the lower clip on the bag?

Locked out of GSD S10

Hi folks,

New Tern GSD owner here.

Day two with the bike and I’m digitally locked out, now with no way to pair my phone and unlock the bike again.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I’ve tried all the online tips for soft resets, removing battery/Kiox, etc. but with no luck.

The app shows I have the bike in tracking mode but it won’t turn on for long enough to connect and unlock.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

🙏

No more retail possible in Germany

Hi all,

Many local retailers told me it is currently not possible to order replacements from Tern. Complete withdrawal.

Anyone has more information?
