Wanting to relocate to Sunshine Coast but worried about finding work

Hey everyone! I am a recent graduate from UBC's Urban/Community Planning Masters program. I have been looking for work primarily in Vancouver since spring and have had no luck yet. The job market sucks right now to say the least. I am from a small town originally and lately am feeling eager to leave the city. I am 29 and engaged to my long term partner, and we are thinking about that "next phase" of life. We have visited the Sunshine Coast a few times and absolutely love it.

The thing is, we definitely cannot make the move unless I have a job offer there. I have applied to a couple of SCRD jobs, but like with any municipality, I probably need to know someone to get in there. I'm also interested in any community involvement type jobs. I'm not familiar with the community so if anyone has any ideas on where I should be looking for work, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Looking for a casual wedding food vendor in Pender Harbour 🌿🍕

Hi Sunshine Coast! My fiancé and I are getting married in September 2027 and we're looking for some help finding food for our reception in Pender Harbour/Garden Bay.

We’re planning a very small, casual wedding and want the food to match that vibe. We do NOT want a fancy plated dinner, five-course meal, or a huge catering team. 😂

Our dream would be something like:

  • 🚚 A food truck that pulls up, serves dinner, and packs up
  • 🍕 A mobile pizza oven/trailer
  • 🌮 Tacos, burgers, pizza, or something similarly casual
  • Basically really good food without making dinner feel like a formal wedding production

We’ve been looking around the Sunshine Coast but haven't found a ton of options that fit what we're looking for. Before I bite the bullet and start contacting food trucks in Vancouver and asking if they'll travel all the way to Pender Harbour, I figured I'd ask the Sunshine Coast community first!

If you've had a food truck cater a wedding/event, know of someone who does private events, or have a local restaurant/cook/food vendor who might be interested, please send them my way!

We're very open to ideas — it doesn't necessarily have to be a traditional food truck. We just want something fun, casual, delicious and relatively low-fuss.

Thanks in advance!

Bag left in Gibsons. Offering $ reward for return to Vancouver, BC.

Hi! I left my Shakespeare and Co. bag at Persephone Brewing last weekend. I called the brewery and they confirmed they have it and are storing it for me. If anyone here plans on going to Van this week and are willing to pick my bag up along the way, I'm happy to arrange a meetup anywhere convenient to pick it up in exchange for a monetary reward! (negotiable price).

Comment or dm if interested!

edit: bag successfully retrieved!! thank you kind people of the coast! 😁

I want to eat a vegan burger on the Sunshine Coast ferry

I take the ferry between horseshoe bay and langdale often and I'm feeling annoyed by the lack of hot food options for people who are vegan. I think i'm feeling inspired after eating their boring rice and bean burrito again! The veggie burger option has cheese in the patty so it excludes a large portion of people who don't eat meat. Seems like an easy switch, if the patty's vegan all vegetarians can eat it too! The ferry to Nanaimo has a vegan friendly patty so not sure why the sunshine coast ferry is different.

I guess i'm wondering if anyone is also annoyed by this? If so maybe we can start a petition or something, haha.

PS. I know I can pack my own food etc. and I often do, but sometimes a girl just wants a burger, ya know..
