Fairfield College

I’m having to face the fact that I’m going to have to send my daughter there sadly.

I’ve looked at ERO reports and their rates are abysmal compared to that of Rototuna or others. She’s academically advanced than other kids so feel she’ll waste away even more than she already is at intermediate school.

I’ve looked at some of their optional subjects which are pretty poor too like hip hop culture for example.

Has anyone here sent their kids there who are slightly more advanced and they been ok? We are from a minority group so I don’t want her getting picked on for that either.

I am trying for other schools in the ballot but that’s not guaranteed and moving is not an option.

Te Huia left out of Labour's new public transport policy.

Labour is committing implementing weekly caps for public transport $20 per week.

Te Huia is the only frequently used commute service outside of the Waiheke ferry (edit: Capital connection is also excluded, which should also be covered imo) that is excluded from the policy. This feels like something that should be explained by Labour at large and their Hamilton candidates as it's an unreasonable exclusion and just another example of how Te Huia is not considered a serious public transit project.

Any team supporter is welcome to reply, me and my friend are just feeling a bit lonely :((( it would Aldo be nice to complain about the playoffs lol. Hope the Canes win!!!!!

Dead cat on Ohaupo Road

I have an aversion to FB community pages but figured I'd try post somewhere.

My partner and I saw a brown and white cat run over on the main road approx parallel to the side street and houses near 290 Ohaupo Road, Glenview. We've taken it to the emergency vet on Anglesea Street to be scanned for a microchip.

It appeared to be well loved :-( very sorry to it's family.

WEL Energy Trust Elections

Looks like these have been given out over the past few days! Just want to remind everyone that while these seem relatively unimportant; these are the people who decide what gets funded, choose how to use our rebates and decide which communities get support. This directly effects the amount we see for our yearly WEL Energy Discount which you should of seen as a credit on your power bill around April-May

Interestingly enough, the person who posts the "What's going on in Hamilton this week" posts here u/benwnz1 is running as an independent for this very election, I don't personally know him but I'd like to give him a shot.
Link to one of those said posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/thetron/comments/1tpm58z/35_things_to_do_in_hamilton_this_week/

Regardless of who you end up voting for, please have a read through all the candidates and vote for people who best represent you. It can all be done online too!

If you work at Waikato Hosp, where would you buy a house?

My partner and I are both RNs with a small baby and want to buy our first home. A lot of our friends have purchased a house at Temple View, but we were thinking of Dinsdale for the bigger backyard option for our boy to play with in the future. Any thoughts?

Restricted driving test Tawn Place

Hi everyone,

I’m sitting my restricted driver's test in two weeks (on June 24th) and I’m hoping to get some advice. I deal with a lot of anxiety in new situations and testing environments, so I’m trying to prepare as much as possible beforehand to help calm my nerves.

My partner has been teaching me and says my driving is good overall, but I definitely have a few weak spots. I really struggle with parallel parking, handling winding roads at higher speeds, and driving in the dark and under the rain.

I know I need to spend the next two weeks practicing those specific scenarios, but I’d love some tips on how to improve quickly.

If anyone has done their test recently, I’d also love to know:

What route did you get? I want to drive it a few times to get familiar with the area.

Are there any specific "trick" areas? Like tricky intersections, sudden speed limit changes, or hidden signs to look out for?

What parking maneuver did they ask you to do? (And if it was parallel parking, how forgiving were they?)

How do the testers usually handle the vibe in the car? Do they let you play the radio quietly, or is it strictly silent?

Any advice, tips for managing test anxiety, or local route info would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!
