Jubilee vs Amala vs Believers? Confused about choosing the best Private Med College in Kerala

EDIT: WHAT'S WITH THE SUDDEN SURGE OF DOWNVOTES?? BOTH ON THIS POST AND THE HELPFUL COMMENTS???

Hi seniors, I'm in a bit of a dilemma and could really use your guidance. I’m currently in a situation where I will likely get the very first college I keep in my options, and I'm totally confused between a few top private colleges.

There aren't many YouTube videos about these colleges, and their websites don't give away much regarding the ground reality. Here is what I’ve gathered so far.

Amala Institute of Medical Sciences: Seems to have modern infrastructure and a polished website. It gives the impression of a decent campus life. (But, just now someone from Thrissur said to me on reddit that it's campus life and activities are poor than Jubilee, so I'm confused if I would make the wrong choice)

Jubilee Mission: The infrastructure looks a bit old and outdated, but I’ve heard rumors about it having a strong clinical side. And the best pass percentage among the private colleges.

Believers Church Medical College: Looks like it has ultra modern infrastructure and a vibrant campus life (going by the Instagram stories of a senior chechi).

Should I sacrifice academics and clinical exposure for good infrastructure and campus life, or is there a college that balances both?

These are my priorities

I want the best medical education and clinical exposure possible within the limitations of a private institution.

My long term goal is to attempt the USMLE or PLAB (with NEET PG as a backup). I know most private colleges in Kerala are ECFMG certified and listed in the WDOMS with sponsor notes.

Ideally, I need a college with supportive faculty and mentors who will guide me in research, which is crucial for a USMLE CV.

Which is the best private medical college in Kerala considering my goals? Does Jubilee or Amala have better faculty support for research? Or is there another college I should be looking at?

Any advice, ground realities, or personal experiences would be super helpful, as there is literally zero information about the private medical colleges in kerala, available online, nobody in those institutions uses reddit or youtube or even the internet?? No single reddit post, no youtube video...nothing is available, so what happens to the students once they join these colleges? 💀💀💀💀💀. Thanks in advance!

Got repeated calls from this number after midnight. Please be careful, especially women.

I received 4 calls from an unknown number last night (after 12 midnight)

I cut the first 3 calls, but they called again so I picked up the 4th time and said hello. The person asked me "Did you sleep?" in Malayalam. I got creeped out

It was already past midnight and I obviously had no idea who this person was, so I found it really weird.

I checked the number on Truecaller and there are multiple reports calling it a fraud/scam number. A few people have mentioned that the caller tries to act like they know you or talks to women specifically.

Number: 8178993087

I'm posting this as a heads up, especially for women here. I don't know who exactly is behind the number, so I'm not accusing anyone. But if you get repeated calls from an unknown number at odd hours, please don't give them any personal information or engage with them.

Just block and report the number if needed. Sharing the screenshot of the Truecaller reports too.

Stay safe guys

Need a little help picking a place for my parents

Hey guys, I got my first salary and I want to take my parents out for a nice meal. Nothing too fancy — I just want to make it a little special since it’s my first salary.
There are 4 of us, and I’m hoping to keep it around ₹1,500–₹2,000 total.
My mom doesn’t really like Chinese food, especially the noodle/soupy type stuff 😅 So I’m looking for something more along the lines of South Indian/Kerala food, biryani, good Indian food, etc. Basically something a South Indian mom would be happy eating.
I’m not looking for some super expensive fine-dining place. Just somewhere with really good food and a nice enough atmosphere that we can sit, eat and have a good time together.
Would love to hear your suggestions. ❤️

How beautiful is Tcr district; but also...

...but also, what do you guys think about people gate-keeping locations of natural beauty?

On the one hand, you want to go there and enjoy it in real life for a while...

On the other hand, chances are that if you broadcast the location, people will flock to it and leave it trashed. And later, it's quite likely that the police will put a ban on the site as a whole just so that they can reduce their workload of potentially having to monitor the place.

Have seen that happen to many sites in the past few months. 1 was the aquaduct near kuthiran where people when to enjoy it as a water-slide (made famous through Insta Obv) and 2 is Peechi Paadam... But I've seen people say you can go there despite the ban/casual ban

Both places were restricted by the cops because of beer bottles being littered/broken there...

A day in my life as a Nurse - Inserting an IV Cannula

A rectangular steel tray. And inside it was a cannula covered in a long plastic sheet with a blue cap on top of it ,a cotton ball with a few drops of alcohol rub and 2 tapes; one long and rectangular, the other one shaped like the U turn in a highway.

" Where's the tourniquet??" exclaimed the senior sister.

Without waiting for me of fetch the missed item she produced a thin rubber tube from her pocket.

"Come let's go" she said and walked towards the patient bed holding the tray in her hand with pride like it's some prize.

" Please wait outside while we insert this needle and draw some blood to run a few tests for your son. It'll be quick"

She said to the bystander and before waiting for a reply she closed the curtains behind the anxious mom.

The kid was lying there not knowing what these women in blue were upto.

"We won't hurt you. We're here to give you some meds so that you'll feel better and go home quick."

He knew somehow that this was going to hurt. He started showing subtle signs of fear. But the nurses were really sweet that one held his arm in place while others held his knees together.

The senior nurse applied the tourniquet on his forearm and started to scan for veins. She wipes his arm with the cotton swab. As the liquid left it's trace in his skin bluish green veins grew visible. Now the search was for a straight vein. After pressing and tapping on different veins, she found one. The perfect vein.

She opened the packet and produced the cannula out of it. She pulled the long needle called the stillet and made sure it's tip was sharp and not bent. She removed the white cap in the bottom if the cannula.I took the cap and tapes to secure the cannula.

Everyone tightened their grip as the senior said " I am going to prick now"

She bent a little and held the needle flat to the vein. She made some calculations with the vein and length of te needle before slowly pricking the patient and advanced the needle in a swift motion. He cried from the sudden pain while she slowly pulled back the needle to see if it was in place and if blood flowed back. Fortunately it did. She pulled the stillet a little and pushed the plastic cannula tip deeper into his vein. I secured it with the rectangular tape first and then applied the horshoe tape.

She drew blood for samples, transferred it to the bloodtubes and sent it to the lab. All of us tried to cheerup the kid, who seemed terrified and sick at the same time.

Some kids hold it in, while some cry their lungs out at the sight of our white coat. It hurts us to hurt kids, but we do it in the best interests of our patients.

To insert an IV canula is no simple task. It gives us access to your blood stream and any medication given through IV immediately reaches the entire body quickly like magic. And to be part of this magic is a privilege.

Imagine having a craving to have payasam after a good lunch while on train. Now you can do that as well if you arrive at Thrissur Station.

Really hope they don't close and lots of love to them! 🙌

Guruvayur on Aug 23 with a 5-month-old - any tips/suggestions?

Planning to visit Guruvayur on August 23 for my daughter’s Choorunu. We have a 5 AM slot, so we need to be at the temple by 4:45 AM.

I’ve heard there are 400+ marriages scheduled that day, so I’m expecting it to be extremely crowded.

A few questions for those familiar with Guruvayur:

  • Is the Choorunu venue separate from the marriage area? Just so it can be bit less crowded from marriage crowrd.
  • Our room is near Mammiyur, around 1.2 km from the temple. Considering the crowd and traffic restrictions, would it be better to walk or take the car at around 4:30 AM? Is parking/traffic likely to be a problem even that early?
  • Anything specific we should keep in mind with a 5-month-old given the expected crowd?
  • Any tips regarding where to enter, parking, queues, or moving around the temple that morning?

After Choorunu, we’re planning to visit an aquarium and Chavakkad Beach. Any other places nearby that would be good with a 5-month-old? Not looking for anything too hectic.

Any practical tips from people who’ve been to Guruvayur during heavy wedding rush would be really appreciated!
