Have been here only a few times but always been curious about the unevenly distributed urban areas of the city. Unlike other cities in TN that mostly have continuously inhabited neighbourhoods, this place has large but less dense suburbs in different places, with Palayamkottai, Melapalayam and Town being the only dense centers but detached from each other.

It's hard to explain but it looks like a constellation of neighbourhoods connected by suburbs. Is there a geographical factor that led to this? Would love to know your inputs.

I’m from Chennai and just got my INICET medical exam center allotment. I’ve been assigned PSN Engineering College in Melathediyur, Tirunelveli.

The exam is on the 16th, and I’m planning to reach Tirunelveli on the 15th early morning to get settled in. I'll be staying until the 16th night. I need help on the following things.

1. Where to stay? PSN seems to be about 15-20km away from the main city. Is it better to stay in the city (near the New Bus Stand or Junction) or are there decent spots closer to Melathediyur.
2. Hotel Recs. Looking for something clean and safe under 3k-5k.
3. Which taxi service to go with?

Any tips on the stay, commute or the college itself would be great. Thanks in advance.
