Can't decide on a bag

as the title says, im having trouble finding "the bag". First a little background. Im a daily trucker. im not overnight sleeping in the cab. im usually bring my lunch, a book, my gameboy, pens, phone, chargers, water bottle etc. I have two TB bags currently. The co pilot and Synapse 25. I carried the synapse around for about a year or so and loved it. only downside was when I wasn't packing a lunch it was too much bag and slightly awkward carry my lunch box in there. the co pilot I recently bought isn't enough bag. fits everything I need if im not packing a lunch but doesn't hold my water bottle very well bc its a 24oz hydoflask. Im really looking for sling bag bc it stands tall and I can keep in the floor of my truck and reach down for easy access. main issue Im running into is finding a bag that holds my EDC items along with my lunch box. my lunch box is essential bc its both a freezer pack and lunch to eliminate wasted space by adding a freezer block. im looking at the nomad but the smaller one doesn't have the over the shoulder sling that crosses the chest and im thinking the larger one would be to big especially if I wasn't packing a lunch. I might be over thinking all this and just go back to my synapse. all this said, Id also be using the bag on weekend adventures to book stores and carrying my cards to play magic the gathering. thanks for the input

How water resistant is Spectron?

I know there's no such thing as "waterproof" materials, but I recently bought the Synik 22 in ballistic. I carried it in the rain and by the end it was pretty wet, and had seemingly absorbed the water. It wasn't dripping and the inside was still dry, but much longer in the rain I could see it starting to leak.

So, what is Spectron's water resistance (if any)? Would water more roll off, or would it absorb as well?

Got the Synapse 25 Red Blend Cordura

And it's gorgeous! The color looks very different in different lighting.

I can fit so much into it. In fact, it may be a little big for my 5'3" self. We shall see.

New Spectron on the way

T30 Spectron restock on the way and a possible new Spectron color, maybe by the end of the summer.

Techonaut 45 Organization question

I'd like something to organize cables / plugs / maybe pens for the techonaut 45. Is there a recommended thing, maybe something that can hook to the inside of it, or even go into one of the side pockets?

My bag for years has been the brain bag, which has three moderately spacious pockets which have made organizing pretty simple, and I'd like something that serves as the equivalent for my techonaut 45.

Hello !! Age old question copilot vs pilot

I have been a long time lurker here, but I haven’t heard a lot about carrying comfort of bags, for eg. how much can I carry in copilot ? 5kg ?? What’s the comfortable weight ? Carrying challenges ? Solutions if there are any ? I am looking for a perfect personal item bag, I have a 14 inch laptop, is pilot a default choice for me ? How much weight does it can carry comfortably ? I tried backpacks and convertible totes but their access is so tedious when you are sitting on plane seat, want to avoid them. Is yeoman duffel a better solution than these 2? What do you think ?

On the fence about Bordeaux?

I got my Bordeaux Paradigm today and I absolutely love it, the color is classy and probably good for any season, it has a nice muted warm tone inside that brightens outside - the bag is a wonderful size compared to my Synik 22. This photo is taken with a daylight Ott bulb overhead.

Wisdom required - EDC and Travel

Hello lovely people,

I am seriously considering having my fam that lives in the US pick up 1-2 bags for me the next time they travel to my part of the world. Since I’m not able to go there in person to check out sizes etc, I thought perhaps you could help me make some decisions.

I’m a tall-ish person (5’,11”), and have slight shoulder pain, but I don’t think that’s very relevant. I travel very frequently for work, and need a couple of things that will work well to help me organize. Thank you!

Needs for EDC:

- Small-ish (I’m looking at the smallest versions of both the Synapse and Synik)

- Will carry: 13 inch laptop, computer and phone charger, journal + 1-2 books/brochures, 750ml water bottle, compact lunch box, meds+basic daily toiletries (lip balm, spf), glasses, sometimes a thin merino wool undershirt

- This is for days when I have to run to onsite work assignments, conferences, hop into a new city drop my bags in the hotel and go

- I really don’t want this to be huge, I’m decent at streamlining packing, but wonder if 19L will not suffice (even with the organization)

- Somewhat collapsible (pack a bag within a bag if I need to make a quick switch)

- Not make me look like a giant with a tiny handbag lol

Needs for weekend travel:

- Looking into 30L range for this

- Don’t particularly like the look of the Techonaut 30L

- Will pack for 2-3 days OR use this as EDC on days I need to travel with my microscope

Additional:

- For those of you who have the 40-45L versions of Tom

Bihn, I’d love to know how those sit on your backs and if they work for 1-week/ 10 day trips when you don’t have the guarantee of a place to do laundry

- General protection (some of my medications are in glass bottles)

- Decent hip & sternum support

Small Open Top Shop Bag

Just recently discovered Tom Binh and am lusting after the small open top shop bag. Would be a great bag to bring lunch and a pair of shoes to work as it's more square than many other bags out there. My question is.... how often does the company release new colors? I'm not a big fan of the purple and yellow option that is currently listed on the website.

Red blend cordura?

I just scored a Synapse 25 in red blend cordura with wasabi lining. 😄 Is the red blend cordura more raspberry/pinkish red, or more on the traditional red side? I think it will be gorgeous either way, but I'm wondering about it. Thanks!

10 day euro trip help

Hello all! I have a Synik 30L and am looking for suggestions on the best packing solutions for my trip. Looking to “one bag” it, what would the best type of packing cubes / organization in the subs experience to use? Also unrelated other than soaking in the sink is there a preferred spot cleaning product that you all would recommend for my bag ( exterior is sunglow )

Thank you all in advance :)

Edit*. I will be going to Poland/Ukraine at the end of June

Zippers between backpacks - which are stiff?

I have an old Synapse 25 (~2016) where the zippers never quite fully "broke in" (i.e. glided smoothly). I have used zipper lubricants, but they still don't glide smooth.

I also have an very old cordura Brain bag I bought used in 2021, those zippers are a dream and glide smoothly.

I'm in the market for a new Brain bag, and I'm wondering if the zippers are more similar to the very old cordura brain bag or the old synapse. As of now, on the website, it seems like the Brain bag and Synapse 25 both have #10 YKK zippers in their main compartment (https://www.tombihn.com/collections/all-tom-bihn-stuff/products/synapse-25?_pos=3&_fid=d6d3e6534&_ss=c%3Fvariant%3D46514712674493&variant=46514712674493 and https://www.tombihn.com/collections/all-tom-bihn-stuff/products/brain-bag?_pos=12&_fid=d6d3e6534&_ss=c%3Fvariant%3D41750504276157&variant=41750504276157).

Even direct comparison between the two bags shows the zippers on the main compartments may be the same, so why do they glide so differently?

edit: Here are pictures of the zippers: https://imgur.com/a/tom-bihn-zippers-Wv2XMfO. I also reached out to TB, but from the information here, it seems clear that the difference is the shiny material in the Synapse 25 (aquaguard zippers). But I am waiting for TB to confirm which bags still have these dreaded zippers, will update here once they reply.

WTB ASAP Saguaro Synapse 19 or 25

Still trying to surprise my friend for her baby coming. Found out she really only likes Saguaro (and maybe verde but especially Saguaro) but not olive (and of course I already purchased an olive bag for her😢 - she of course, doesn’t know this)… anyone have anything? Baby is coming soon… like any day soon. I need a bag asap. She wants gray inside, I know that might not even be possible, so show me what you’ve got and I’ll see what might works. She does prefer a 19, but might consider a 25. I have items to trade or I can purchase. If anyone can come with a paramour that’s another bag we also talked about… so I’ll throw that on the table if you’ve got one too. Thanks!

Mystery request nailed

When I ordered two mystery grabs I sent an email asking to avoid ‘earthy’ or ‘classic backpack’ patterns, and particularly avoid navy, orange/burnt sienna, or olive. Anything monochromatic or jewel/pastel tones were perfectly fine.

They went hard with all grey variants which I couldn’t be happier with. The bottom interior lining is navy but I like it being tucked away.
