Happy🇺🇸Hangover🇺🇸Day!

Feeling pretty bad about being American this weekend, but feeling pretty great about this AR-15!

The build is

  • (John-era) Noveske N4 Light Carbine upper receiver, with a Smith Vortex flash hider pin-welded at the factory (so for regulatory purposes, it’s actually a 16” barrel)
  • Gas block is stock, but shaved down from its original FSB configuration to make it low-profile
  • Troy Industries SOCC 12.5” Battle Rail
  • Magpul AFG1 foregrip
  • Streamlight ProTac 1L-X
  • Trijicon ACOG 4x32, tritium green chevron for the primary sight
  • Ultradyne C4 offset irons for short distance and overall backup
  • Daniels Defense Phosphate BCG, because the original was lost to the sands of time and who wants to pay an extra $40 for the same quality just to get a logoless BCG from the OG upper manufacturer?
  • Stag 15 (rip stag arms and aero precision) full lower receiver as the starting point
  • Odin Works Adjustable Heavy AR-15 Buffer, currently in H weight configuration
  • Magpul CTR stock
  • Magpul MIAD pistol grip
  • ALG Defense Advanced Combat Trigger
  • Seekins Precision Safety Selector Kit
  • Magpul MS1 QDM sling
  • Magpul PMAG-30

Can’t you tell I’m a bit of a Magpul fangirl? 😂

I missed AR Thursday...

... so in a spirit of abject repentance, I'll combine the last two posting trends of ARs and .308s with this AR10, built out as a DMR-style rifle. This is a custom build which was a COVID project about six years ago.

I know, I know, the first photo doesn't show the muzzle brake; this is one of a number of guns for which I deeply need to shoot updated photos. I included a second photo of just the brake to compensate.

Build details:

  • Aero Precision M5 upper/lower receiver set
  • Toolcraft DLC 6.5 Creedmoor double ejector BCG
  • Aero Precision AR10 charging handle
  • Non-adjustable low profile .750 gas block
  • Faxon 20" heavy fluted 5R match barrel
  • VG6 Epsilon 762 muzzle brake
  • SLR Rifleworks Ion 13.5 Ultralight handguard
  • Vortex Viper PST Gen1 2.5-10x44
  • Aero Precision ultralight cantilever scope mount
  • Magpul PRS Gen3 stock
  • Ergo Tactical Deluxe Grip with palm shelf
  • ALG ACT trigger with 6lb hammer spring
  • Harris 1A2-BRM bipod

Total unloaded weight is around 11 lb, 10 oz. Honestly I feel that's not bad given the large optic and PRS stock, and having some mass to it isn't at all a deal-killer for a rifle that mostly lives and breathes on the bench or prone.

I've only taken it out very little, and keep meaning to do so more, but it's quite reasonable recoil for a .308. Bizarrely, it somehow managed to end up slightly undergassed, despite that practically every other AR10 is substantially overgassed, and Faxon barrels from around that time period in particular had some QC struggles which resulted in them being dramatically, overwhelmingly overgassed. I have no explanation whatsoever for this.

What’s your favorite caliber in a AR?

This one’s a 6.8 definitely not my favorite but it gets the job done

AR Recomendation

I learned about Caylee's Cans Peas and Quiet. 22 Suppressor, and now I need to buy one. I just need to pick a gun to go with it. I thought I wanted an AR that can handle both 22 and something a bit more standard.... but this seems like it's a bad upon more research because of baffle strike etc. What would you get if you were me?

For background, I have a Glock 19, a Mossberg 500 and a Black powder revolver. Growing up I only shot hunting rifles, but I've never bought one for myself. I had originally wanted a supressor for the Glock, but sine Caylee is community, I kinda have to get one of those.

Hot AF at the range (the weather, not me)

Took out some guns to break in and teach my baby cousin to shoot. He's 19. I didn't take an actual infant to the range.

Doesn't posting pics put you at risk?

I joined this sub when it was recommended to me on a sub for trans people. I'm like hell yeah I love guns. But I see everyone posting these dope ass guns and was going to post my own as it's pretty decked out. Then it hit me, what if your government finds these pictures. I might be overworried cause I'm from America and our government is already heavily anti gun despite our second amendment, but this current administration is so anti trans and they are targeting us. Does this not concern anyone else?

308 you say...How about an extremely weird HK91 that dreams of one day being an M1 Garand.
