I have lived in Powai since 2018, and within a year of my moving here, I saw pillars being put up in front of the IIT Bombay main gate for the metro construction. Since then, it's been nearly 7 years, and the first metro is yet to run on this line. We all know how crazy the JVLR gets during rush hour, and it's like everyone's riding an SUV these days, taking up half the road.

And if you need to get somewhere in South Mumbai during this rush hour, you're in for a ride through hell. Your option is taking the local train, which is another level of madness, or a cab, which will anyway get stuck on WEH for an hour or two.

It's an absolute shame that it's 2026, and a reliable and on-time public transportation in the country's financial capital is still too much to ask.

Saw this headline and it genuinely made me wonder if there’s a chance it will be done before mid 2027.
Mumbai locals are already such a rush and a mess. The overcrowding, chaos and constant struggle to get anywhere gets exhausting, people are just constantly worried about how to get from point A to point B and it shouldn’t have to be that big of nuisance with major safety risks.
At this point, do Mumbaikars actually have any faith that these projects will be completed anywhere close to their promised timelines? Because I’m seriously sick of relying on locals.

Navi Mumbai has been growing rapidly. From 2011 to 2026, the population has increased from 1.1 million to now more than 2 million people.

I see new buildings are coming up everywhere, be it Kamothe, Sanpada or Seawoods. I feel the transportation is not keeping up with it

I've been in Navi Mumbai for decades and earlier even trains from Panvel had seats till Seawoods and Nerul but now it comes packed from Panvel itself. Apart from one metro connection (which doesn't even connect entire NM btw), I don't see any improvements in public transportation. The crowd in locals is increasing rapidly, as no other options are available. It is only going to get worse.

When resources are limited, why are more buildings being allowed to be constructed? Why is there no limit being set? Water issues are already present and adding more flats is only going to make it worse. Transportation is limited which will lead of overcrowding in trains too. The frequency of buses is very very less, with each one coming after 30-45 minutes.

With the latest news that Maha Metro may further move the stations on the Thane Ring Metro, it is simply ridiculous that the execution on the project has started without finalizing the route and station alignment.

All the stakeholder consultations should have been completed before the project starts, such adhoc changes without systematic planning, is going to cost the commuters later with a patchwork network.
