Treehouse TABs - Black Sap?

I installed the TABs for my treehouse about a year ago and the one at the bottom of my tri-beam has a lot of shiny black liquid around it. The one at the top looks clean (two pics of each). The TABs were installed about a year ago, but I think the black liquid only appeared in the last 4-5 months. I’m nervous that there is an infection that will kill the tree. So far there is no movement in the TAB itself. Has anyone else experienced this?

The black stuff has a slightly sweet smell and a bit of a slimy texture. The tree is a Tulip poplar, probably around 100 years old and about 3.5’ in diameter at the lower tab.
