I live in Western Montana and came across these crazy trees trying to eat megalithic rocks. Thought it deserved a post!

This tree looked absolutely magical in the evening light 🌳✨✨

Caught this during a peaceful evening walk. The golden light, the breeze, and this giant tree made me stop for a moment. Nature really knows how to slow us down. 🌅

Found this double whammy in a tree 3/8ths rod with a heavy staple attached to it. What, how…why?

Inside of an old poplar right outside the back door of our 1956 home.

Stump is about 18-20” diameter

Embedded about 12” off the ground

Staple seems to be attached by more than just time and corrosion.

I assume it was attached to a young tree and the tree consumed it but what is it, why would it be attached so low to the ground?

I’ll mark this SOLVED! with the consensus being that it’s a an old fence, this was also my best guess I just wondered if it was in fact some specific piece of old hardware that I was unfamiliar with.
