You're a trivia host. You have a friend that has zero interest in trivia. Doesn't watch Jeopardy. Never once attended your trivia nights. Then after many months of doing your thing, a "hot" girl starts playing regularly. I put her winner photo up on Facebook. The very next week, said friend is there. He doesn't even play, just to watch. Mind you, this is in a back room closed off from the rest of the bar so he's not there to be at the bar. This repeats week after week. Then said "hot" girl actually gets on jeopardy. Friend finds her page and sends her a message congratulating her. She has never spoken to him and she tells me that's weird. The following year we have another girl playing regularly. Friend tells me how he looked up her fb page and they actually know a few of the same people from their hometown. A couple months later, SHE'S on jeopardy. He asks me to tell him when and where her watch party is gonna be (not the usual venue). How would you handle this bullshit?

Hi all.

I am a previous Bar Bingo Host that is now transitioning over to Bar Trivia, so looking for ideas that stand out from most other Bar trivia.

What are some of your favorite trivia nights, and what makes them stand out from the typical format? I'm not looking to copy anyone exactly, just gather ideas and put my own spin on things.

One thing I definitely want to do is themed nights, but more broad themes instead of a single fandom, tho maybe once a month do a Fandom to maybe attract new players.

For example:

Sitcom Night

Reality TV Night

90s Nostalgia

One-Hit Wonders

Fast Food & Restaurants

Halloween

Cartoons

...rather than something like Harry Potter or Friends.

Right now we only award one winning team. We don't have prizes for second or third place, although that could change in the future. One idea I had was giving the second place team a little incentive by letting them choose the following week's theme from three options, kind of like the final category selection on Wheel of Fortune.

I'd love to hear any ideas you've seen work well. Whether it's unique rounds, scoring twists, bonus games, audience participation, prize ideas, or anything else that keeps people coming back each week.

I got my first regular quizzo host gig last January after only being a fill in 2x. It has somehow gone far better than I ever expected it to. We're averaging 20 teams of 4-5 players a piece, the bar is thrilled because it's now their busiest weeknight, and they asked if I could start hosting music bingo as well on a different night.

I enthusiastically responded, "absolutely, I used to do that back in college, I would love to!"

I had been to a million quizzos/trivias before I started hosting. I had a pretty good idea of what I needed to do before I filled in for a friend for the first time about a year ago (and reading this sub filled in the rest, thanks.)

But fellow trivia hosts... I have never even been to a music bingo. I have a vague concept of how it even works. I have no idea what supplies I need to bring. Can I use Spotify or do I need the world's largest mp3 library like I had when I was in high school?

Also, it starts next Thursday and I've already agreed and said I could pull it off no problem. Please point me in any direction that could help.

I've been hosting trivia nights at several different local restaurant and bars for 10+ years. This fall I'm renting a large event space, hiring a caterer, and inviting all my most loyal teams to come gather for a big tournament. Extra rounds, extra prizes, dinner included, and I'm picking up the tab. These people have basically helped me buy a house so I'm thrilled to give back.

I'd like to do some "special awards" during the evening. There's one guy who I am going to award "mayor of trivia" and give him a sash that says "mayor" he's my biggest fan and LOVES chatting up everybody at every game he comes to.

There's another guy who came to the very first game I ever hosted and I'll honor him as a "longest player"

I'll also take a moment of silence to remember the players who are no longer with us.

Any other fun ideas for special awards i can do??
