Sorority Dues

Hi y'all! I'm an incoming freshman looking to rush in the fall, my main question is approximately how much dues are. I've talked to current members but they beat around the bush. I just want to see more or less what the cost is. TIA!

Keep current schedule & take Gen Chem II next summer or test out right now?

I am a rising freshman entering Texas State this fall as a Chemistry major. Right now, my current fall schedule looks like this

MATH 1315 (College Algebra)

CHEM 1320 (Introductory Chemistry)

ENG 1310 (College Writing I)

POSI 2310 (Principles of American Gov)

PHIL 1320 (Ethics and Society)

US 1100 (University Seminar)

Because I was placed into College Algebra, I'm technically one semester behind. Freshmen usually start in MATH 2417 (Pre-Calc) and CHEM 1341 (Gen Chem I).

I am trying to figure out which route to take to make sure I graduate on time, and I don't want to fall behind. I wasn't the best at high school, and I really want to change that in college. And I would love some advice on which route I should go?

Option 1: Keep my schedule exactly as it is for the fall. Take College Algebra and Foundation of Chemistry. Then, take Pre-Calc and Gen Chem I in the spring, and take summer classes to knock out CHEM 1342 & 1142 Gen Chem II / Lab so I am fully caught up before my sophomore year starts.

Option 2: Take placement tests right now over this summer before fall classes even start. Use the Texas State Testing Center to take the Accuplacer AAF math test need a 263+ to skip College Algebra, and take ALEKS Chemistry Readiness modules Online to test straight into Pre-Calc and Gen Chem I for this fall.

The thing I'm worried about is that if I do option one, I'm gonna have to take Gen Chem II/lab over the summer, and I'm not sure if I wanna take one of the hardest classes in a 5 week course. Any advice from TXST STEM majors who started in College Algebra or anybody really would be amazing!

Need help - Math 3305

Howdy y’all.

I am a graduating Computer Science student, and MATH 3305 is the final course I need to complete for my degree.

I am currently enrolled in MATH 3305 this summer, but serious lease/housing issues & illness are affecting my ability to focus and complete the course successfully. Because of these extenuating circumstances, I am considering dropping MATH 3305 for the summer and completing an equivalent course in the fall through UTSA or Texas A&M-San Antonio, then transferring the credit back to Texas State.

I understand that Texas State requires at least 24 of the last 30 undergraduate credit hours to be completed at Texas State. Thankfully, MATH 3305 is my final remaining degree requirement, and I am not disenrolling from Texas State and have not used any transfer hours. I am still enrolled in a Texas State course during the second summer session for Operating Systems.

Before I make any enrollment decisions, I really need advice or guidance. This is my first time requesting transfer credit, so I want to make sure I follow the correct process. Specifically, I need to confirm:

- Whether Texas State will accept an equivalent MATH 3305 course from UTSA or Texas A&M-San Antonio.
- If there are any online options as TXST doesn’t do any online options
- Which specific course or courses are approved as equivalents.
- What forms or approvals I must complete before enrolling at another institution.
- Whether taking this final course as transfer credit will affect my graduation eligibility.

I checked for available advising appointments but did not see any open times. I want to make sure I follow the correct process before I drop the course or enroll elsewhere.

Should I transfer in 2026 Fall or 2027 Spring?

Hi. I’m an in-state transfer looking to apply to txst. I have not submitted an application yet but I’m wondering if it would be better to submit one for the fall vs the spring.

I’m looking for a college in state with good social life & a good business program along with a good swimming club / intramurals. I meet friends from staying active in sports.

Any advice would be appreciated. Not sure if the social life would be better as a last minute applicant (and I would need housing on campus & ideally good classes) vs if I should just wait one more semester.

Best restaurant spots to work at

I’m coming in as a transfer in the fall, and I’m looking to get some work. I have 3 years server experience, so looking to work in a restaurant. I’m considering either moving in august or trying to move to SM in July if my apartment allows it to learn the job before class starts.

What places are usually busy? What’s the best way to apply, indeed doesn’t seem to have as many offers up as Austin does. I also prefer to work with Toast POS. I’ve applied for pluckers but know there’s a lot of good spots.

Is now a good time to apply or should I wait until closer to fall semester?

Am I valid for somewhat hating my summer job?

I am currently working for my summer job on campus it’s my first year doing a job like this. I’ve had friends who’ve done this job before and what they experience versus what I’m experiencing is completely different. The biggest difference is that this year I’m roomed with a coworker. They’re cool and chill, however I feel as if I don’t have any time to myself. I work late and the last thing I want to see at midnight is my coworker. When I wake up the first thing I don’t want to look at is my coworker. When I work I’m literally with my coworker. It’s only the beginning but I feel like it’s going to be a long summer. It sucks that i’m already hating this job.

Career advice for COSE

I am about 80 credits into my computer engineering degree and have no clue what my next steps are towards actually getting a job once I graduate (hopefully spring '27)

My questions are

What are people in the computer world wanting from an employee?

What does the internship scene look like right now?

Who / what type of person should I ask about internships? Department chair, people already in the field, random people on LinkedIn, etc.

I don't know where to go from here and have no actual guidance from peers or advisors. I feel like we're all in the same crappy boat, but something has to give. If y'all have questions that might help with your advice I'll try to keep up.

Making Friends

So I spent my entire first semester here not going out and sitting with my now ex and I have no friends now... I'm staying here for the summer and just want some tips to make friends. This lowk feels cringe to post but it's a little lonely.

Why TXST?

I’m a rising senior trying to narrow out my college choices, and right now TXST is looking like my best option. I’ve heard the housing could be better, but I’m wondering what the pros are?

EDIT: I’m majoring in psychology and minoring in biology.

Honors college application

I'm looking to apply to the honors college as a current student. I have a 4.0 gpa, so I'm not too worried about my grades - but I have a quick question regarding the essay portion. If I just reused an essay I wrote in one of my classes, would they flag it for plagiarism? not to sound like a lazy chud but i just dont feel like writing lol

Work Study

i was just awarded work study to assist paying my costs for my 1st year dorm and i would really appreciate any information about what the process of finding a job will be like, and how soon it needs to be. i have created a handshake account but am unsure how to use it, and all the jobs appear to just be random companies instead of on campus positions. the links on the txst official website tell me all the listings for the positions are no longer up..

please any information will be greatly appreciated, i need guidance!!

TXST TRANSFER ADVICE - Housing, general advice, etc

Hi y'all!

I'm 21, and I'm transferring to TXST this upcoming fall semester, and I need recommendations on housing. Pricing doesn't necessarily matter, but I do prefer 3X3 or 4X4 units because I feel like it'd be easier to make acquaintances/friends! If anyone did this and regretted it, please lmk LMAO. I am looking for a place close to campus. The one thing I can't do is roaches. I hate bugs.

I've been looking at Vie Lofts and The Local Downtown, but if anyone has any stories or has friends who do, I'd love to hear them.

Aside from this, any advice or just anything I should know would be heavily appreciated!
