To all the LibTech student workers who got laid off on Thursday: Please read this.
Hey Knights,
Like many of you, I am incredibly angry about the absolute mess UCF administration pulled on Thursday by abruptly shutting down LibTech and letting everyone go mid-shift with zero warning.
Losing a job out of nowhere is stressful enough, but losing it right now means a lot of you are probably facing some severe financial hardships over the next few weeks:
Rent is due in 3 days (July 1st): Many of you live in off-campus housing or apartments along Alafaya, and losing your main source of income right before rent is due is terrifying.
Frozen Financial Aid: If you were on Federal Work-Study, that financial aid money is completely locked up now because you have no hours to work.
The "Summer Trap": Every other department on campus filled their summer hiring slots back in April/May. Finding another on-campus job right now is almost impossible.
Basic Expenses: Groceries, gas, summer textbooks, and utilities don't stop just because UCF decided to cut the budget.
If you are struggling right now and worried about falling into debt or missing rent, please reach out to me directly.
Depending on your situation and qualifications, I might be able to personally assist you with a loan or point you toward a potential grant to help provide some financial security while you get back on your feet. You shouldn't have to carry the burden of the university's terrible planning alone.
Drop me a DM/PM if you need help or just need to figure out your options. Keep your heads up.
