Is W-2 DoorDash work popping up in your market?
Hey everyone,
There is constantly a ton of discussion on here about DashPass, hot spots, base pay, and the struggles of 1099 gig work. But I haven't seen much talk about a trend I'm seeing locally, and I'm curious if it's happening in other areas.
Here in Alabama, local logistics companies are popping up as official business partners with DoorDash to offer W-2 Delivery Associate positions.
Instead of being an independent 1099 contractor, drivers get:
Guaranteed hourly pay ($18–$22/hr total range here) + 100% of tips + mileage reimbursement
A set schedule (full-time or part-time) without having to chase hot spots or compete for orders
W-2 employment benefits (paid training, PTO, employee discounts, etc.)
Catch: You still use your own personal vehicle.
Has anyone else seen these third-party W-2 DoorDash partner companies in your city or state? If you’ve worked for one, what’s your experience been like compared to standard 1099 dashing? Is the trade-off of schedule flexibility worth the stability?
Would love to hear if this is expanding nationwide or just a regional experiment.
