[SFH] [FL] Volusia County Permitting: How Does This Happen?
The house across the street was bought as a winter home by people from up north. They have constructed a parking garage, a pool house, a large garage, then later added additions to make it a very large 3-car garage, did electrical work, altered the topography, and made a partial parking lot in their backyard. THEN hooked up a fifth wheel to power and water and started renting it out!
There was one permit. Yes, I said one.
I reported it to the County, and they replied, “no violations found.” However, all of a sudden, the fifth wheel disappeared.
Then I got angry. Between that and the flooding, I’d had enough. So I included this complaint with my flooding complaint to Dempsey, along with the evidence and the email saying no violations.
All of a sudden, there was a violation found. No permit for the additions to the garage. BUT hey, all the other buildings and electrical work don’t need permits.
Shake my head because, yep, you guessed it—they’re not doing anything about all that either.
