[Sweet Home] Is anyone else getting tired of the “overpowered MC” formula?
I’ve been getting kinda bored with how repetitive a lot of modern manhwa has become.
It feels like I keep reading the same story with different character designs: absurdly handsome MC, some mysterious event/asteroid/system/dungeon appears, humans get powers, monsters show up, MC becomes ridiculously OP, and then it’s just the next stronger enemy… then the next one… and repeat.
I know not every manhwa is like this, and there are definitely authors doing something different. But after reading enough of these, the formula starts becoming way too obvious.
I recently picked up Sweet Home and it was honestly refreshing. Not because it has monsters, but because the characters actually feel like people. Their personalities, fears, beliefs, reactions, and the way they deal with each other actually matter. It doesn’t feel like everything exists just to give the MC another power-up.
So I’m curious, does anyone else feel the same way? What’s the thing that frustrates you the most about modern manhwa?
And more importantly, what manhwa have you read that actually break away from the usual OP MC + system + monsters + endless power scaling formula?
