My toddler daughter is having loud scream crying fits when told no

So my daughter who is 2.5 is having extreme fits screaming at the top of her lungs when she is told no or doesn’t get her way. The volume is insane. Today daycare messaged us to come get her because she had a 3 hour tantrum and was throwing herself on the ground and hurting herself. I got to daycare and they asked if they could be blunt and said this is a behavioral issue and we are not being disciplined enough with her. They said she communicates great when she’s not upset but only screams when she gets told no or doesn’t get her way. They suggested the timeout system. Besides that system what should I do? She is a stubborn little girl and will just scream immediately once we ask her to not do something or if you tell her no at all. My husband and I work full time (I would want nothing more than to stay home but I can’t 😢) and feel like awful parents like we should have been doing this a while ago but figured the gentle approach was helping her calm her down faster but the daycare let us know that that is actually having her walk all over us. Just please help me. Tips, advice, all is welcome. They daycare assured us they don’t do expulsions they work on it with us.
