Did you know that just 1 in 6 people choose our mayors and city councils?

Did you know that every election, only one out of every six Chilliwack residents choose our mayor, city council and school board? It's not much better in other communities.

Of course, approximately two out of every six people can't vote because they are under the age of 18. But one out of four eligible voters cast ballots in 2022. That 25% turnout is the average over the last five municipal elections.

If you are one of those six people who do vote, maybe talk to a neighbour or friend or co-worker and ask if they vote. If not, tell them this statistic and tell them why you vote.

And/or take your kid to the polls, one of those under-18s, so they can see the process in real life, an experience that might stick with them so when they turn 18, they'll help bump up that voter turnout rate.

Rant over ;^)
