IVF pregnancy & planned C-section timing (38+6 vs 39+2)
I’m currently 25+6 with a PGT-normal embryo pregnancy after IVF, and I’m trying to decide on the timing of my planned C-section.
A few weeks ago my OB had me start thinking about choosing a date, and I chose a date that would put me at 38+6 (which happens to be a Friday). At my recent appointment, she told me they don’t schedule elective C-sections before 39 weeks(even though it would only be one day shy), and that weekends are reserved for emergencies, so the new date would likely be the next Monday (39+2).
I worry because I’ve heard things about IVF pregnancies not being recommended to go too far past due date because of placenta concerns. I know I’ll have more monitoring closer to the due date, but it’s still scary. For peace of mind, I’d rather be a little early than too late. But she doesn’t seem to want to budge. I plan to ask my MFM doctor too, but I don’t see her until 4 weeks from now, and the OB made it seem like it would be almost useless to ask.
Does anyone have any experience or input when it comes to going past 39 weeks with an IVF pregnancy? Does a few days make much of a difference in terms of creating more risk the closer you get to 40 weeks? Any thoughts are welcome, thank you!
