Can Amazon terminate you while a medical leave extension is still pending review?

I work at an Amazon FC and I’m dealing with a stressful situation right now.

I was originally approved for medical leave from April 25 to May 6, but my condition continued and I had to submit an extension request. I submitted the extension paperwork on May 20, and the case is currently still under review.

During this time, I received 2 emails about attendance points/UPT related to the days covered by the extension. Our FC recently removed on-site HR, so everything has to go through A to Z HR cases now. I opened a case and they told me they would escalate it to local HR.

Today I received a call saying I was “flagged for termination” because of the attendance issue. I explained that my medical leave extension is still pending and that I already submitted the documents. The HR rep asked how I knew the leave would even be approved, which honestly made me panic because I’m still waiting for the decision myself.

After that call, I contacted the medical leave team directly. They told me to wait up to 5 business days for review, and the representative said they appear to have all the documents they need.

My question is: has anyone here been terminated while a medical leave extension was still pending review, or do they normally wait until a final leave decision is made first?

I’m mainly trying to understand if being “flagged” automatically means termination even while the leave case is unresolved.
